Yep, I saw the news story on the front page. Now they're just discussing how much the price cut should be. If they dropped it to $400 or even $500, especially $400, then PS3's will start flying off of the shelves! ( At least I would hope they would ) But we can only wait and see how much they'll drop it. But then the "other console" could also answer with a price drop.
Still just speculation. The target of holiday season is logical but at no point was it confirmed. If they can't work out the kinks in the logistics of how much they can/should cut then most likely there won't be one by Christmas.

400 would be great then maybe I could buy one! 500 would be easier though because they could use the old sku they used for the 20gig models and still maintain their premium status above elite 360 not to mention a 200 dollar drop is pretty big

VGchartz have it on 10 million, nextgenwars(proxbox site) has them on 11 million for months! But no one is discussing weak 360 sales. If PS3 was 399, Jesus i can only imagine how good would it be selling. With games or no games people would be all over it!
vojkan they may be marking how many consoles theyve sold, but they dont say how many of the supposed '3%' theyve gotten in faulty returns, i bet atleast 8/10 million are unhappy at the moment.
In some markets there may be a small price drop but I really don't see that happening in the US/Canada because the price here is a bargain compared to other markets.

My thoughts exactly. I get mine early and had to pay FULL price with a handful of games meanwhile the owners come this christmas will get a lower price, Home, games galore, and rumble controllers. Wow. Next time I'll play the bench longer before buying a new system.

It isn't that 360 is selling poorly and they just aren't reporting it. That's not right at all. This is usually the slowest time of year for console sales, anyway. The 4th quarter is always when the fires get started. So low sales figures this time of year are typically ignored. The Wii is doing so well because Nintendo has been able to maintain the freakish buzz surrounding the system, and the low price point doesn't hurt. But I don't think anyone expects either the PS3 or the 360 to be setting sales records during the summer.
A price drop for the PS3 right now probably still wouldn't see a huge increase in sales prior to the holiday season. There would certainly be a spike, but it would be short-lived.A large number of people get these things as gifts for the holidays, so even with a price cut that's still when you would see the largest sales.
And for all of the people that said a price cut this year would be impossible, I hope to see you all eating crow ln the 4th quarter.
Im gettin mine cheap at ebgames with the trade deals n stuff, so i guess its the same..ill only get one controller since the rumble controllers are coming in december.
