So engadget posted an article stating that "Opera has officially announced its much-loved web browser will be appearing on Sony TVs and Blu-ray players.". This is great news, but nothing in the article states whether the PS3 will be included in this group. Seeing as how many people have been requesting a real browser for the PS3 since it came out, it seems like the PS3 would be the first to get this ability. Has anyone else heard or read info on this concerning the PS3 in particular? Do others still want a real browser on the PS3?

Let's hope so. The web browser it has right now is horrible.

No clue but, like you, I'm hoping that's the case. I don't see why Sony would spring for Opera on TVs and Blu-ray players for 2 reasons. 1) They pitch the PS3 as being your all-in-one entertainment hub (it is for me) and 2) they will have already made whatever agreement they needed to use Opera on their hardware elsewhere. Why not include the PS3 in that?

Hopefully it gets it. I've used Opera before and it's a more than capable browser. Replacing the current iteration of the PS3 browser with Opera would address one issue that has been an area of concern for many gamers for a long time.
