You've got to be kidding me... I just got a PSP for Christmas... Oh well, if its worth it, I might upgrade. I haven't had any problems with the current PSP design, though.

I welcome the change, I'm thinking of going full handheld anyway. The PSP interface has never been as comfortable as I've wanted it to be, I don't really have much issue with the rest of the system, just the feel of the buttons and their placing/texture, it just feels wrong somehow.

RARwr great, so I just spent 250+ on a model to be outdated probably by the end of the year. Now I wish I waited, but nothing I can do about it now. I'm pretty intrigued to see what Sony comes up with, if the new model contains all the improvements that were rumored on Kotaku it may be worth it to upgrade. Though I'm not sure how I'd feel about a touch screen, it would create incompatibilities with first generation PSP's and the screen is already delicate enough as it is.

I would welcome a control redesign, especially the analog nub. A second analog control would be most excellent. I'm sure we'll hear more at E3 in the Summer.

Reminds me of the PS2 Slim, why would i buy another if i already got one? I like mine the way it is and to be honest the current one is fine. I'm not going to shell out 250 bucks for another. Just my opinion though.

I will buy one as soon as they add another analog nub, I can't deal with the old style control layouts anymore.

We shouldn't expect anything more than a visual upgrade, anything that would render the old model useless(extra analogue nub, touch screen etc.) would be bad business sense. I think its a money saving redesign.( less materials used) which would futher prove the point that PSP 2 is a long ways off as sony will want to milk the slim psp cow for a few more years.

There is talks of bringing a redesign, just reading this article, it seems that it is possible but not yet confirmed, and even so, especially after what sony announced, my bet is it won't come out till next year if there even is one

Sony have not announced a redesign and have rejected the idea of one, so the possiblity of seeing one in the future is thin.

Check rumor control on the main page of Gamespot. It's basically being presented as "sure, someday we'll redesign the hardware."

I think a revision is evitable if Sony wants to make it cheaper, which I assume they do.  With the exception of the battery life, I love my psp the way it's now, and there's is no way I'm buying another one, especially if all they do is make it lighter and add a new battery.

I just got my PSP in decemeber. But much i love it, Sony made some odd mistakes. Instead of a redesign or PSP2, PSP 1.5 makes more sense. Meaning improved the flaws on the current model. In no order 1. L2/R2 second analog sick. Since most of PSP games are base on PS2. 2. Get rid of nub and add a regluar sticks. 3. Accepts all media files. 4. Keyboard 5. Streaming videos/audio from internet 6. Improved Load Times 7. Built in flash drives. The PSP 2 will be probally be a PS2 and PS3 just like the PSP was mix of PS1 and PS2

Adding sticks would make it absolutely not portable, as would a remotely usable built-in keyboard.

what u mean? PSP has one nub stick already. The redesign will be a flip top or a slider. a small keyboard i can see.

You said get rid of the nub and add regular sticks, and doing that plus a flip top or slider would make the thing 3" thick at the minimum...

Instead of that nub, they should have put a regular analog stick like the PS2. And just add a second stick. The DS is a flip top, but instead of a keyboard they added another screen.

Which would lead to the minimum 3" thickness I described...

@xaos, which location free player model do you have? I'm looking into getting the Sony LF-PK1 from Amazon. Do you think it's worth it? Also, I'm guessing it's not possible, but can you record streaming tv on your pc?

The B10 or B20 are the series I'd recommend. No, it doesn't support recording/capturing the video stream that comes out. The PK1 model has some really serious limitations, IMO, namely requiring a wired connection to a router to be accessed outside the local network and no video passthrough, meaning that anything plugged into the base station can't be hooked into anything else.

Meh. If it's really better, then I'll probably get it. But I won't purchase it if it isn't new and a LOT more superior.

It sounds cool if there are more improvements then a smaller and lighter version. If they don't decrease screen size, the button layout is better, the games load faster or other things improve i may just consider getting it. I have a feeling there won't be many if any hardware upgrades though :( sad.

Personally i think the design of the first one is fine, i just think it needs some regular hardware improvements.

Also, the second nub or stick is almost impossible and it would be a horrible move by sony. Seems good on paper but this isnt a psp 2, so what will people do if they have the one without the second stick? Are they just going to miss out on games because they dont have it...?

As long as there isn't an update on the hardware side, such as an internal hard drive, then I'm good.

@xaos, does the b10 or b20 need a direct coaxial cable connection for streaming tv or does it use the router's connection to the cable modem, because I know the pk1 does the former. I'm just wondering if I would need to get a spitter for my cable line.

thx.

EDIT: I tried finding this info myself...

I'd be interested in what type of changes they actually made to the system. obviously they can't add a second analog or change the button configuration. if they wanted to improve battery they could release a new battery seperately or a firmware update that improved battery management. the only thing I can really imagine is if the insides of the psp actually got smaller or they used more advanced technology that could improve battery life and they could add more ram or whatever the browser needs to actually be a decent web browser. they could make the system thinner too I suppose. most other improvements could be made via firmware.

There will probably be something like where you can trade it in and pay less for a newer model or something like that.

You mean like Nintendo does with Gameboys and Apple does with iPods? Oh wait, they don't; why on Earth would you expect Sony to?

I'm so tired of people blaming the lack of a second analog nub for why a games control setup isn't as good as it could have been, and as a result the game someone how isn't as good in there eyes. I hear that stuff all the time from game reviewers it's so annoying. Just the other day Xplay game the new Ratchet and Clank game a 3 out 5, because of the so called poor control setup, and hearing Adam Sessler call the PSP Sony's shiny black mistake really made me mad.
