I had my Ps3 since dec, 2006. Last april I got the yellow light of death. Because my ps3 was out of warranty, i didnt mind paying the $200 to get it repaired.. anyways, I got a new ps3 with a 90 day warranty. Then 5 months later, I turn on my ps3 out of no where and it says I have hard drive corruption or something, anyways, its busted again. So im at that point im gettin pretty annoyed. Now, last week, I finally have enough money saved up to get it repaired again, so. I call sony... they do the same thing again.. 200$ and 90 day warranty. I ask the girl if theres anyway to buy more warranty time, because I suspect that something will happen again. and she says no. I ask if theres anyway possible, like through my local sony store, or over the phone by credit card.. again the answer is no.. I find this very annoying, does this mean in another 5 months I might have to dish out another $200. I've already spent more than $1000 on the machine.

You do know a corrupted hard drive doesn't need to be sent in for repairs right? hell, just spend the $200 on a massive HDD. Also, your consumer rights cover you against such things happening, if your machine breaks through normal use take it to where you bought it and they have to either fix it within reasonable time or replace it at their expense, hate to tell you, but that $200 you spent with Sony first time was just money thrown away.

Wow thats rough man, i had the same problem with the hard disk corruption however mine was in warranty. I think it is unlikely you will get extended warranty from Sony, however you can buy warranties from most electrical retail shops, i would try that.

:shock:Woah. I think that that's just absurd, because the PS3 is so expensive and all! Also, the games are pretty expensive, too! So what if you were to spend a bunch of money on games and stuff, and then your PS3 was brken beyond repair? You'd have to buy a new one of all that game money would be a total waste! How cheap! They should definitely work out something for those that buy the system.

Well just to make you feel better I was forced to buy a launch 60gig machine in dec 06 for $1000. I have noticed that if you have any Thumb drives in your PS3 and boot it up you get the Hard-drive not found error. Like someone said i would just go out and buy another 2.5 SATA HDD and do the swap myself. Make sure you get the right screwdriver for the PS3 hdd tray if not call sony and they can send you a replacement HDD TRAY for FREE. Or go and buy another system so you dont have to worry about warranty issues.
