My 60gb got YLOD the other day and I've decided to replace it with a new ps3 slim. I have decided to sell the YLOD one on craigslist as is. Some guy made a good offer that I want to take but first I have some questions:

1) I disasembeled the blu ray drive partially to recover my game. I put everything back together right and the YLOD still comes on. Will whoever buys it still be able to get it serviced for $150?

2) My personal info. Will any of this be recovered when it gets refurbished? (I want it to be off the system so whoever buys it cant access it).

Thanks in advance for you help guys. I realize most people probably wont know the answers but if anyone has some personal experience I would appreciate some input.

My 60gb model gave me the YLOD some time ago and I opened it up and got the game out. Hell, I stripped out the screw on the top panel because I didn't have the proper hex driver that fit. They still fixed it for $150 with no questions asked. You'll more than likely get a refurbished unit back in its place which in case all your information will be gone, but you'll still need to call Sony in order for them to deactivate your faulty system. Though, if it's a simple fix such as the PSU they may just replace it and send the same console back and in that case all your information will still be on the system. You could take out the hard drive and replace it with a cheap used one before you send it to them or sell just to be safe. That way all your personal information will be gone.

I don't think he could get it serviced because you removed the warranty sticker, just make sure you tell him you removed it. And you're info is stored on your PSN, so if you had it set to autolog you in then yes he could get to all you personal stuff, so make sure to get access to a ps3 before you sell it so you can change your password.

And its not a scam hes selling it as a broken ps3, people buy and sell broken systems all the time, you just have to make sure to include everything thats wrong with it.

How in the world is selling a system as is (as long as you state it's not in working order) considered scamming someone? And yes, they'll service it even if the warrranty sticker has been removed or tampered with because guess what, it's no longer under warranty hence the $150 service fee.

It is if he doesnt let the person know its defected I dont understand why you just dont get the system fixed and keep it you will get a new one. and if your game is stuck in it dont worry about it they will take it out for no extra charge and send it back with a new system.
