There has been a lot of negative press about the new PSP Go. Many are claiming it's a rip off because it's more expensive than a new PSP 3000, and costs less to produce due to it's lack of UMD drive. I would have to agree. It is a lack of the UMD drive that is the biggest problem. You wouldn't be able to play any of your UMD games. You would have to rely on downloading games that you wouldn't even be able to trade in. Eventually, games will stop being released on UMD and only made available for download, forcing people to buy a PSP Go. I think the PSP Go is a HUGE mistake and will really cost Sony. Any thoughts or opinions? I would really like to hear from someone that has a PSP Go and what they like about it.

I think people really are forgeting how much UMD as a media form sucks. It sucks so much that I found load times unbearable and never bought a psp 1000-3000 because of UMDs.

The PSP go is for people who never had a psp ever and these people such as myself do not own any UMDs. I have a Go and I love it, the game library is kind of lacking right now but I have been playing mine non stop since release.

Lastly the Go was never ment to replace the psp 3000 that would just be a dumb marketing decision. Sony wont stop making UMD because these is too big of a comsumer base to force everyone to dl their games.

That post seemed un needed.

I don't know what model PSP I want. I want a GO, but there are a few games I want that are Import only. Can you download Japanese games to the GO, or is it region locked?

Well it isn't region locked as such but you can only download games from the PSN you are connected to. In theory you could go to Japan and download some games from their PSN but I don't believe there is any other way.

It actually seems like it is still gonna be a big moneymaker for Sony in the long run. UMD really does suck. Plus the design is all around better if you can get over the fact that the screen is smaller (hardly).

i dont know why people use the screen is smaller factor... because it retains the same pixel resolution the screen is much MUCH sharper, and the alround quality of it far surpasses the 3000 or 2000

I think Sony did the PS3 trick with the Go.
It didnt saturate the market with hype, it didnt create a great starting line up, it relaesed it too expensive etc.
There should have been an model betwen the 3k and the Go that would have better online connectivety (like the Go) but still have UMD drive. Then they should have released the Go.

The PSP GO is Retarded. It has nothing more than a PSP 3000 but has the disadvantage of only being able to play downloaded games, therefore a PSP 3000 is better because it can play UMD AND Downloadables

sony also needs to have those new games on umd available on psn. they should try to update it more often so pspgo owners can catch up with the umd game libraries.

Last time I checked, one could download games for all PSP models. It doesn't say "PSP Go only" anywhere. Maybe you're using some weird PSN I haven't heard of.

Considering i bought a PSP Go, and it's been a couple of weeks, i really really like it.

I have 7 gamse for it

  1. Metal Gear Solid
  2. Final Fantasy 7
  3. Resistance : Retribution
  4. PixelJunk Monsters
  5. Gran Turismo
  6. God of War : Chains of Olympus
  7. Prinny : Can i really be the hero.

and there is now 9 games i'd be willing to buy one day for it that are available right now.

  1. OddWorld Abe's Exodus
  2. OddWorld Abe's Oddessey
  3. GTA: ChinaTown Wars
  4. Armored Core 3 Portable
  5. GTA: Vice City Stories
  6. Patapon 2
  7. Killzone : Liberation
  8. Ratchet and Clank : Size Matters
  9. Wipout Pulse

and there are 7 games i DEFINENTLY will buy when they come out that are coming, very strong chance they are all coming to the PSN.

  1. Metal Gear Solid : Peace Walker
  2. Assassin's Creed : Bloodlines
  3. Little Big Planet Portable
  4. Final Fantasy 13 Agito
  5. The Third Birthday
  6. Kingdom Hearts : Birth By Sleep
  7. Valkyria Chronciles 2

and considering how many games they haven't added on the PSN that i hope they bring over from the back catalog that i'd be willing to buy.

  1. Metal Gear Acid
  2. Metal Gear Acid 2
  3. Metal Gear Solid : Portable Ops (definite buy)
  4. Ace Combat X : Skies of Deception (definite buy)
  5. Final Fantasy 7 Crsis Core
  6. Star Ocean : First Departure
  7. Star Ocean : Second Evolution
  8. Valkyrie Profile : Lenneth

and some more that i may very well be forgetting.

they could also bring the Parasite Eve games to American store ( i beleive they are available on the Japanese store).

Now look over that list,

That is a ton of entertainment right there.

All Sony will need to do is price cut the PSP Go from premium to budget model, and do regular game sales to keep the PSN store stimulated.

Sony is serious about the digital distribution, and i'm willing to bet that PSP2 will most likely be digital only. With that they will ensure backward compatibiltiy for all PSone games and PSP games of the past. On top of that Sony allows the user to use their account to redownload all their old purchases (that is a big deal for me and i know a lot of people).

Well it isn't region locked as such but you can only download games from the PSN you are connected to. In theory you could go to Japan and download some games from their PSN but I don't believe there is any other way.

I don't know but I assume so. I think you need different PSN accounts for each region. The other thing to consider with this is that only games bought under the "active PSN account" currently on the PSP can be played. So if you bought games from the UK and *** PSNs then you would have to switch between PSN accounts when playing the different games. Maybe not a major issue but....

Would I have to buy a Japanese PSN card? Cause this may be the deciding factor for me.

Well I can afford it and since I earn my own moneyI can justify it. However FOR ME the bigger screen plus second hand game market is more attractive/important then the nice design (thatI do like) and smaller size.

I don't think there was any need to be insulting - your opinion is no more valid than anyone else's in this thread and neither is mine!

Sony promised that they would still produce UMDs entil PSP gets old like when a PSP2 comes out. Though they made the Go but they didn't stop UMDs.

In the beginning, Sony tried making this media disc universal and it just didn't catch on.

It's time to put the format to rest. :(

BTW, I hate buying used UMDs. I bought one from EBGames and the UMD was totally busted right up. That was the last time I bought mine used.
