It is a theory. UMDs cost money to produce. It would be much cheaper to release games only on PSN.I think people really are forgeting how much UMD as a media form sucks. It sucks so much that I found load times unbearable and never bought a psp 1000-3000 because of UMDs.
The PSP go is for people who never had a psp ever and these people such as myself do not own any UMDs. I have a Go and I love it, the game library is kind of lacking right now but I have been playing mine non stop since release.
Lastly the Go was never ment to replace the psp 3000 that would just be a dumb marketing decision. Sony wont stop making UMD because these is too big of a comsumer base to force everyone to dl their games.
I never even considered that. Thanks! I really appreciate it.I think people really are forgeting how much UMD as a media form sucks. It sucks so much that I found load times unbearable and never bought a psp 1000-3000 because of UMDs.

Of course you didn't consider that. You just reacted like a lot of other morns who want their own thread to rant about a product they secretly love and are jealous they can't afford or justify buying.

That post seemed un needed.
I don't know what model PSP I want. I want a GO, but there are a few games I want that are Import only. Can you download Japanese games to the GO, or is it region locked?
That would be really nice if you could.I don't know what model PSP I want. I want a GO, but there are a few games I want that are Import only. Can you download Japanese games to the GO, or is it region locked?

Well it isn't region locked as such but you can only download games from the PSN you are connected to. In theory you could go to Japan and download some games from their PSN but I don't believe there is any other way.

Would I have to buy a Japanese PSN card? Cause this may be the deciding factor for me.
It actually seems like it is still gonna be a big moneymaker for Sony in the long run. UMD really does suck. Plus the design is all around better if you can get over the fact that the screen is smaller (hardly).
i dont know why people use the screen is smaller factor... because it retains the same pixel resolution the screen is much MUCH sharper, and the alround quality of it far surpasses the 3000 or 2000It actually seems like it is still gonna be a big moneymaker for Sony in the long run. I agree the Go is too expensive, the issue on UMDs are exaggerated I don't seem to find any problem other than its battery comsumption

hahaha Post of the day.I think Sony did the PS3 trick with the Go.
It didnt saturate the market with hype, it didnt create a great starting line up, it relaesed it too expensive etc.
There should have been an model betwen the 3k and the Go that would have better online connectivety (like the Go) but still have UMD drive. Then they should have released the Go.
Eventually, games will stop being released on UMD and only made available for download, forcing people to buy a PSP Go.VixenofSaturn01Last time I checked, one could download games for all PSP models. It doesn't say "PSP Go only" anywhere. Maybe you're using some weird PSN I haven't heard of.
There has been a lot of negative press about the new PSP Go. Many are claiming it's a rip off because it's more expensive than a new PSP 3000, and costs less to produce due to it's lack of UMD drive. I would have to agree. It is a lack of the UMD drive that is the biggest problem. You wouldn't be able to play any of your UMD games. You would have to rely on downloading games that you wouldn't even be able to trade in. Eventually, games will stop being released on UMD and only made available for download, forcing people to buy a PSP Go. I think the PSP Go is a HUGE mistake and will really cost Sony. Any thoughts or opinions? I would really like to hear from someone that has a PSP Go and what they like about it.VixenofSaturn01
Considering i bought a PSP Go, and it's been a couple of weeks, i really really like it.
I have 7 gamse for it
and there is now 9 games i'd be willing to buy one day for it that are available right now.
and there are 7 games i DEFINENTLY will buy when they come out that are coming, very strong chance they are all coming to the PSN.
and considering how many games they haven't added on the PSN that i hope they bring over from the back catalog that i'd be willing to buy.
and some more that i may very well be forgetting.
they could also bring the Parasite Eve games to American store ( i beleive they are available on the Japanese store).
Now look over that list,
That is a ton of entertainment right there.
All Sony will need to do is price cut the PSP Go from premium to budget model, and do regular game sales to keep the PSN store stimulated.
Sony is serious about the digital distribution, and i'm willing to bet that PSP2 will most likely be digital only. With that they will ensure backward compatibiltiy for all PSone games and PSP games of the past. On top of that Sony allows the user to use their account to redownload all their old purchases (that is a big deal for me and i know a lot of people).

Beat me to it, thanks for taking care of our numerous *special* gamespot membersCant we just get psn games from psn store even if its with 3000+umd+big screen= :) (Buy 16-32gb memory stick for 3000)assultrider
Yes of course you can!I have a 16gb stick in my 3000 and have downloaded some games from PSN - couple of minis and a couple of PS1 classics thus far!

I don't know but I assume so. I think you need different PSN accounts for each region. The other thing to consider with this is that only games bought under the "active PSN account" currently on the PSP can be played. So if you bought games from the UK and *** PSNs then you would have to switch between PSN accounts when playing the different games. Maybe not a major issue but....
Would I have to buy a Japanese PSN card? Cause this may be the deciding factor for me.

Well I can afford it and since I earn my own moneyI can justify it. However FOR ME the bigger screen plus second hand game market is more attractive/important then the nice design (thatI do like) and smaller size.
I don't think there was any need to be insulting - your opinion is no more valid than anyone else's in this thread and neither is mine!

In the beginning, Sony tried making this media disc universal and it just didn't catch on.
It's time to put the format to rest. :(
BTW, I hate buying used UMDs. I bought one from EBGames and the UMD was totally busted right up. That was the last time I bought mine used.
