Sony's conference needs to be like Microsoft's

Like it or not MS said straight up what they have that will be shipping before Christmas.

That is exactly the kind of news I want from Sony, as much as seeing new demos and future projects is exciting and all, Sony really needs to give people sitting on the fence a reason to go out and get a PS3 now and not just more of the "But look what we have coming next year".

I'm not saying I don't want to see what the future holds...but at this point I'd like to see what we have coming before Christmas because that is what they need to sell units.

Sony's press conference needs to be everything Microsoft's wasn't. Namely including lots of interesting new announcements, having something other than the typical PR sanitized statements and celebrities and getting people very interested in the product.

Microsoft's was almost sufficient but not particularly interesting. Sony's needs to be resplendent.

Ya I think Sony's needs to and will be better. I was not that impressed with Microsofts. I understand what you are saying and agree that Sony needs to show a lot of good stuff coming out now rather than far in the future. However, they already do have an number of things coming out before the holiday season. The thing about only focusing on that, is your telling everyone what they already know. It is good to show that, but for most of the time I felt like i was watching a commercial for GameTap with a bunch of clips of all these different games, and nothing got me that excited, and what comes after the holidays a bunch of multiplatform releases?

Hell .. KZ2 buzz alone has overshadowed he MS conference. As far as Sony goes, we've come to expect news about Lair, Heavenly Sword and Killzone 2, but I really hope there are some new IP announcements. However, I believe there will be a big push for LBP and Home. I also want to know more about Afrika.slikMotion

Well what I do know...if Sony shows up with nothing but "Look how great next year is going to be" it won't help them move a single PS3 now, and then they will be even further behind.

They need to sell the stuff between now and Christmas and if they talk about anything else after that, while it will be neat and help re-enforce current owners faith , it will just cause even more people say "Might as well wait another 6-months for the next price drop".

That attitude will kill the PS3...they need to hype the stuff they got coming sooner rather then later.

Why not have that AND some new, super-cool products?

The main reasons for these conferences is to convince the consumer that they need something, and although MS's was to-the-point, there wasn't an overly large amount of "megaton" stuff like we've seen at E3s in the past.

Sony should definetly give us some solid dates for games, but in order to make up for last year's E3 (which I didn't find that bad, but some people here hated it) they should bring out some big guns (hopefully they will show off last night's Killzone demo, in its entirety)

That was about the worst thing Sony could have done as far as pushing PS3 sales between now and the end of the year. And forget about what the Japanese market is going to think of it all.

Granted we have the GDC in a few weeks...maybe they can change some stuff around for that.

they were all pretty terrible compared to last year - no bombshells, no crazy news. killzone looks good, but i'll never be comfortable playing shooters with sixaxis. considering getting a mod where they put the sixaxis in a 360 controller shell :) would be so hawt.

^^ Gotta agree, sony showed a lot more than shooters, and even though a couple of the games they showed coming out this year are shoots I wouldnt be so quick to classify them all that way. First Haze imo is more of a single player shooter, although I am guessing it will have multiplayer, but there will be a focus on the story. URT3 will focus on online gameplay. Kane and Lynch is a third person action game, even if it does have a lot of shooting totally different experiences. Sony has a lot more than just shooters, and each has a different feel and appeals to a different audience. I think it is strange that you feel microsofts conference was so great and sony's was so terrible, especially if you are talking about the overmarketing of shooters.

Microsoft announced absolutely nothing, No new games, No hardware fixes, No Metal Gear, No 65nm process, and No price drop. All they announced was a Halo Edition X360, which looks like someone took the old X360 and wiped crap on it.

Sony gave you a look at some games coming out this year, Socom, Warhawk, Uncharted, HS, R&C, etc... but also gave us a look at the big ones next year, MGS4 and Killzone.

I liked that in the Sony conference.

Microsoft should have shown something like Fable 2, the new Banjo game, or Ninja Gaiden 2.
