Every culture has complicated censorship patterns. Please remember that Hot Shots Golf in America lost all the gratuitous panty shots because American culture found that sexist. In Japan, at least the last time I looked, the USA version of Playboy would be banned as too daring. The US Supreme Court just ruled this week that people can go to jail for showing porn that simulates under age kids even if no underage kids are actually shown. I imagine that all of this leads to people who make games wanting to be safe not sorry. If I were a game maker in today's US climate I would start covering a lot of female ankles and stay out of jail. Perhaps the dresses worn by that cult in Texas that we see on the TV news with collars buttoned to the top and hems dragging the ground will be used for the American version of Soul Caliber Five.

I think this is a good idea. Seems like every Soul Calibur the clothes get more kinky on the women, now I actually might get this game.Delsage

Its a shame that actually almost everywhere sex sells. A lot of the time it is practically unnecessary too. Who remembers Yunalesca from FFX, its like uhhh can someone explain the reason for that lol. Please tell me that women can still be attractive without being deragatory.

This is art, not in-game graphics. There are no guaranties that this will be changed in the game (to be fair, there is no guaranties it will not be changed). As far as I can tell, there are no guaranties about it being one of Ivy's costumes.

If nudity and clevage in a fighting game is so important to you, go play dead or alive... I lost interest on that game since the Darth Vader character...

I'm all for a little nudity, but that first pic is just ridiculous.

As already mentioned though, this is character art and not the game. Who knows what they will do.

If this is an indication as to changes made to the game, you can probably thank the gutless ESRB for cow-towing to parent groups and the US government instead of providing a consistently fair tiered rating system.

I think some of you are overreacted just a bit. This censorship was for like a poster, marketing in North America. They more than likely can't make that kind of change within the next few months in-game. It takes a long time to animate those characters, especially rendering. Someone can't poke their head in the dev company and say, "I know it took you weeks to animate and render that person, but we want you to do it again, but with more clothes, since our people don't know what self-control is." Even better? They should slap an M rating on there so we won't have to hear any complaints by parents (minimally). But about the overreaction, you do know this country has a terrible problem of self-control, right? Of all the females I know, there is only one...ONE who has not had a kid. Everyone else is single mothers. We can all blame the media for the constant images we see every day, but only are the one who makes your own decisions.Soulglove

They can easily just cover it up in a game. All they need to do is make the general skin, thats why sometimes in fighters there will be people that have mutiple costumes because its just the outer shell.

Besides, hentai translates to kinky, or pervert so its not that bad of a word :P.

I still consider the US ESRB kind of pathetic, specially after reading the Uncharted thing, where if you could kill the fish in the game, then it was gonna get a M rating. Kind of pathetic that extreme violence is well accepted in the society, but once you show half a tit, you get censored. Just my 2 cents.

Well, but you've got to admit that Ivy's clothes, or rather lack of clothes, is comical. Hell, who would really fight like that?

Anyway, if it is indeed censored, can't we just buy the European version? Generally they are censor free and since the PS3 is region free I see no problems.
