Soul Calibur singleplayer

This game intrigues me. The depth of character creation/customisation is startling (I ADORE creating my own unique characters) and this alone makes me want to buy it.

However, this really seems to be a multiplayer game where you brawl with another living breathing person. Does the game have a singleplayer and how does it fare? Apparently it's you vs many bad guys instead of there being showdowns. Is the singleplayer any good? With multiplayer, are there servers and you simply join and battle a random dude?

I really want to know as much about this game before I think of spending money on it!

the mode your on about is tower of lost souls were u choose a certain number of characters to take on challanges, kinda like tag team wrestling, they get harder and harder as u go on, eg later on theres this one opponent who deals tons of damage, heals with every parry and automatically parries; my verdict...
