Resident Evil 5 has a great 2 player split screen mode.
However, I think that splitscreen games are becoming less and less common as more and more people play online. It just isn't as necessary any more. Personally, I saw this coming a while back when people kept complaining about the PS2 not having 4 controller ports and how it MUST be standard next gen. I kept saying, nobody cares about splitscreen anymore now that online gaming is taking off.
I think we are seeing the results of that now.

exactly. I alway found split screen annoying even more when it was 4v4 (LoL Golden eye), plus i could never really focus on my side and kept looking at the other one.The PS3 and 360 are billed as the hubs of your entertainment centre yet less and less games allow for more than singular participation. I own all three systems and realize that the only reason that the Wii has taken off is the fact that the majority of their games are meant to be enjoyed by the whole family or a bunch of friends. Hopefully Sony and Microsoft learn from the successes of the Wii.
the only reason that the Wii had done so well is because Nintendo the oldest console (that's still going), so it has lots of fans from it's predecessor's, plus it's the cheapest next gen console out. I'm not slateing the Wii cos i own all 3 as well, But i think i speak for most people who own one that mine just sits there building dust. And i am completly aware how unrelivent this is to the split screen thing lolThe PS3 and 360 are billed as the hubs of your entertainment centre yet less and less games allow for more than singular participation. My point is that the Wii has a lot of split screen multiplayer games unlike the PS3 and 360. My Wii also collects dust most of the time. However, when I have friends over the Wii gets dusted off so we can all play together. Too many games are missing the split screen or offline multiplayer. Who wants to sit there and watch someone else play when you could play together?

I totally agree. The trend of all games only supporting online is saddening. I still have buddies that come over and play Halo with four boxes and 4 tvs and its a blast. I can only assume most of the people that boast online and say that splitscreen lan isn't necessary have never seen how much fun it is.
Now I know its not nearly as convienent as just playing online, but really, how hard is it to add the function to the game?
Whats worse is there are some games that still support it, but they don't do four way splitscreen, cod4 for example would require 16 ps3s and 16 tvs, which I'm sad to say I'm just shy of
With the push for big hdtvs it wouldn't be that big of a deal to split that into four screens.
Aww man, how did this thread degenerate into a Sytem Wars flaming session ? Back on topic- here dude check this list out- it has alot of split screen games listings etc- helped me out alot Oh, and if you buy a big 50" like mine the split screen is not a problem ;) http://www.co-optimus.com/system/2/playstation_3.html Wii sucks.tonesonic
aw, you beat me to posting that link :)
anyway, playing split screen with friends>>>>>>>>playing online. Its somuch more fun to play and trash talk your buddies, or even play co op in the same room imo. time splitters with the bots on ps2 was amazing, and Conker's bad fur day multipler on N64 was another great one.
Pretty much this. Both resistance games, Unreal tournament. um LBP, COD4 and COD WAW, Burnout Paradise with Party extension, and thts all i know there are more tho...

[QUOTE="Duckman5"][QUOTE="mep69"]who would want split-sceen when you can play online with a full screenmep69Because I have reallife friends that come over sometimes and I like to game WITH them as opposed to forcing them to watch me game. OMG a reeeeeeeeal life friend ?!?!?!?! W... What's it like to be so amazing to obtain such a thing called a 'Friend' ?lol, u practically asked him though, sooo....drop the irony.
Warhawk is pretty good. It's 4 player split-screen online. Some sports games are good aswell such as nhl 09, nba 09/2k9
I need a game to play when are friends are over too!!
Currently I'm thinking about LBP but I'm not so sure whether it's great to play with friends locally. I mean, we all grab our controllers and.. jump around a 2D platform? Is it worth the money if I don't intend to use it for online much?
The other alternative for me is R2 but I don't like how there's no coop for the campaign but just those side mission things. How're they neway?
I tried RE5 on a friend's 360 but I didn't enjoy it and I only want exclusives for my PS3.
I could also get a sports, racing or fighting game but I'm not too interested in those. If so, it's most prob be a soccer game or the next Tekken, I dunno.
Any help? Can anyone tell me about LBP and R2 local multiplayer? They good? Thx..
