Splinter Cell Blacklist, good place to start? Or should I play the others first?

At E3 this year I saw some demo work of Splinter Cell Blacklist shown at the press conference. It looked like a good game, but I've never played a Splinter Cell game before. I was wondering if the story is sequential with the rest of the series. Do you have to have played the other games to understand and enjoy the story of the new one, or is it okay to jump into this chapter without prior knowledge of the series?

Well Ubi looks as if they are rehauling the whole series. Giving it a fast pace, Assassins creed look. You should def check out the first three as they are great games and you will learn more about the characters and story. Double Agent is the 4th one, but was a huge disappointment.

play the other ones. They're awesome but Splinter Cell 3 is just amazing. Double Agent is good too.

Hmmm, yes and no? The original games are worth playing, but if you're anxious to play Blacklist you shouldn't NOT play it just because you haven't played the others. There are some continuing plot elements that carry over from each game but they are nothing major that would/should prohibit you from enjoying Blacklist.
