this thread isi not for hating on final fantasy at all. its just something i think would help square enxi in the long run. i mean final fantasy 13-2 got released in japan to weekly sales of 502000 units. thats an approx figure but its one third of what final fantasy 13 sold which was 1.5 mill. not only did squeenix ruin final fantasy's rep with ff 13 and ff 14 it probably also ruined it for any future ff gamers. what my main point is that they should just stop releasing games with final fantasy as its name. it wouldnt put as much pressure on dev for a perfect game. who remembers vagrant stories. that was an amazing game released by square soft and it was just awesome. they should give up on the final fantasy moniker and release powerful stand alone titles.
Had they released the same game without the Final Fantasy title on it they would have sold even less. No offence but leave the marketing decision to those who know their job, and half a million in the first week in Japan only isn't by any means bad, lower than other Final Fantasy titles, but not bad.
obviously you missed my point completely. lately ff has been an easy target far many online trolls to hate on. you cant denie that its fanbasse isnt as big as it used to be. the name final fantasy itself limiting devs from making a great game. watching the playthroughs the game is the same as past ff's. its like they cant take it into a new direction without pissing off people. supposedly ff versus is mature and all but its taken them this long. IMHO the talented people in squeenix are wasting their time.
The way I understand it is Final Fantasy is the name of the team. This is why the games don't have any continuity for the most part. A Final Fantasy is a game that is released by this team. The team is beginning to get stale in my opinion and times are a-changin' as Bob Dylan would say. I think FF made Square and I do think that dropping FF just isn't going to happen. Probably rather than just calling a game Final Fantasy, they should instead say it is by team FF and title it something else.
What people don't know is that every FF game is basically a new series with new characters and worlds. they just use the name "Final Fantasy" because A: it sounds cool B: they are lazy But yes the Final Fantasy series is a big target for the haters. Glad to know this wasn't a "FF **** thread.
All Final Fantasys are different games from each other. The only thing they have in common is the title, nothing more.

no its not. every game theres the same atb/atd type of combat. same fantasy setting . when im saying that they should make different games i mean ones where it has nothing to do with that fantasy setting. take vagrant story for example
I would die for Vagrant Story 2, more than any new FF that's for sure, can't believe how square left VG in the dust... Also would like to see more of Front Mission (a good one i mean not like the latest one) to be honest i'm giving up on Final Fantasies, i'm not a hater i guess i'm just an old lover dissapointed.

Though I never have played Vagrant Story or Front Missionbeyond the point of testing them out for about half an hour I totally agree.
And yeah, Final Fantasy really isn't what it's used to be.
But they DO have more in common than just the name. At least I - X:
- Some Summons - Chocobos - Airships - Minigame - Interesting, unique characters with mostly interesting backstories
But the most important:
- A general overall larger than life philosophy which reflected itself not only in the game's eachstory, but as well in the character names and even name of the music tracks.
And exactly the last and in my opinion most important point is dead since Squaresoft became Square Enix.
The melodies of life have become Squaresofts Final Fantasy, unfortunatley.
if FFXIII didn't have the name "Final Fantasy" then it would not be so much hate for the game. It's amazing how so many people want FF to stay he same over and over again. you can't blame them for trying something new in FF you ungrateful pricks.
I think they should give the series a rest for a bit. I would like a Drakengard 3, but with a whole new story and better combat system.

The game was created by Cavia which is now disbanded, with their final game being Nier which is supposed to be set in the same world as Drakengard but in the future although theres no clear reference to the game there are bits of hints like a man telling you that the world is as it is because of something that fell out o the sky referring to the dragon.
I think they should give the series a rest for a bit. I would like a Drakengard 3, but with a whole new story and better combat system.

Nier is supposed to be in the post apocalyptic future I believe and yeah there's no big reference to Drakengard, except fir being the setting of one of the endings of Drakengard I think. So there's no big connection to the storyline.

Well they sure aren't trying to make new stuff, FF XIII-2? no thanks... And yes having Final Fantasy on it should be a responsability in some way, though they are losing it's title...

Its not so much people hate it when SE tries something new its when they go too far in trying something new. FFX tried sometihng new but it still kept that final fantasy feel. FFXIII was basically COD in a fantasy setting and in the third person. SE even said so themselves.
