Square Enix talks FFVII remake; new PS3 project

http://www.psu.com/Square-Enix-talks...0001210-p0.php

Everyone saw the breathtaking Final Fantasy VII demo when the PlayStation 3 was first announced back at E3 2005. But Square Enix has remained stern on the position that they would not present the world with a remake for the PS3. This, however, did not stop millions of people asking for one whenever the opportunity presented itself.

This week, Famitsu sat down executive producer Yoshinori Kitase, producer Hideki Imaizumi, director Hajime Tabata, and character designer Tetsuya Nomura to discuss Crisis Core and future iterations from Square-Enix.

After stating how intense Crisis Core is, and how it fills up almost an entire UMD-rom, Nomura and Kitsae were questioned on upcoming games. Aside from Crisis Core, Famitsu editors asked about new developments in the Compilation series, before stating the obvious---fans want a FFVII remake.

Imaizumi said that the remake of FFVII is a question of timing, mentioning that Kitase, Nomura and Tabata are all busy with the Final Fantasy XIII series. He added that a new game of some form would be announced at the Tokyo Game Show. It's not certain if this new game is in the FFXIII series or a completely new title from Kitase, Nomura and Tabata--but PlayStation 3 owners should be very excited.

No--this isn't Kingdom Hearts III, which was already touted to be unveiled for the PlayStation 3 console at TGS.

Imaizumi confirmed again that there is currently no plans for a FFVII remake but noted that this decision could take place very quickly, and mentioned how the decision to make Crisis Core took only two days. So, have no fret PS3 owners!

Of course he is going to say he has no plans when a few other FF games are in develpoment, he doesnt want to over shadow the upcoming games....

A FFVII remake would be amazing, but I don't think it will happen considering they are probably working on Kingdom Hearts III a bit, FFXIII, and Versus.

IF Square Enix were to ever remake Final Fantasy VII, then with all due respect to Nintendo and Microsoft, this console war is OVER.

Millions of people, myself included, vividly remember Final Fantasy VII. It stands as one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had; on any console. It didn't have the best graphics or music or story; it simply had all of the intangibles that make a good game great and a great game, legendary. Obviously it had the most memorable set of characters, the most nefarious villian (although Kefka from FF VI can make a very valid claim to that title), amazing CGI scenes, and the most shocking plot twist of all the Final Fantasy games...

Final Fantasy VII holds a special place in our (FF fans) hearts because it is memorable. It is a game whose characters and whose story stay in your heart long after you beat it. It brought Final Fantasy into the 3-D generation and did it in a way that will never be forgotten. It is a shame that many younger gamers have never had the opportunity to play this masterpiece.

That said, Final Fantasy VII should obviously be re-released to the public if only for the reason that it makes perfect business sense. I DON'T want to see the story changed at all. I DON'T want to see the characters re-drawn Final Fantasy Advent Children style (realistic). I like the cartoony look to the characters. Maybe they can touch up the models to look good in HD...I would like to see them use the power of the PS3 to revamp the environments. Please DO NOT change the music!

At the very least, I think Square Enix should offer the original Final Fantasy VII with enhanced HD models for download on the PlayStation Network once they have completed Final Fantasy XIII. It would be a game that millions of PS3 and PSP users would buy.

Let todays kids experience this magnificant game. Let them understand that a good game doesn't have to have loads of violence in it. Let them understand the importance of a good story and a memorable set of characters. Introduce them to the beauty of the genre of gaming that is RPG.

I don't understand why they don't just do it already. it would be like installing a money printing press in their office.

If the game were to be re-made, it would most likely be done using the "realistic" art style of Advent children.

So your saying that the FFVII tech demo was crap because that featured the advent children character models.. it was the fact that the demo featured them that was the most exciting part for many FF fans including myself and i have been a fan of the series since the start.. i agree the story and music should be left alone although they could improve the Music and audio quality, but i see no problem in having the quality that the tech demo showed in the character models and that goes for backgrounds and the summons as well you can only imagine how Knights of the round, ifrit etc would look.

I would love it if they remade the visuals of the game. Plus, if you think about it Squareenix already has the models from the Advent Children movie. All they would have to do is tweak them around a bit and add some new scripting and they should be set.

QFT. There is absolutely no point in doing a remake if all theyre gonna do is tweak the original character models. If thisg ame is remade, it will be done from the ground up. Using the original material, in Advent Children Style.

They say its only a "question of timing " so I think sooner or later it will appear .They must release it in the PS3 ,the Wii isnt suited for this game and the 360 is very weak in Japan where this game must have half of its sales .So ,for the PS3 .But they wont release it in the PS3 until there are at least 20-24 million consoles out there ,and seeing as right now PS3 is around 4.6 million sold theres a good wait until they announce this .But ,as Square said ,its only a question of timing ...so its only a question of time .I bet they annonunce something around when FFXIII launches ....

A remake of FF7 would be a system seller for me if I didn't already own a PS3. Just as Mass Effect is a system seller for me on the 360.

Or maybe, just maybe they are already dabbling in it but like someone said earlier they didn't want to steal any of the steam from their new releases.

theyve already said before that they wouldnt doa remake, then in the same interview, said they might. this preceeded no game announcements. they are like your older brother torturing you with the idea that santa clause doesnt exist. im very happy that they are announcing a new game at tgs, and id be even happier if they released a ffvii remake. but id also really appreciate it if SE gave a solid answer on the subject.

Still you can never give up hope. The fact that they keep changing their answer tells me that they are uncertain weather they should remake it or not. But that chance it always there. Keeps fingers crossed :)

A FF7 remake would score big time. But atm I'm looking forward to crisis core on PSP.
