i loved the game personally. its difficult in a sense where you have to be patient. you cant just run through it like its a hack and slash game. you need to use your blocking ability, and pick the right times to attack. great boss battles, and pretty cool implementation of multiplayer. i can't wait for project dark.
you should check out the demon's souls wiki page. it will tell you pretty much everything you need to know. i used that page so much during my first playthrough.

One of the best games on PS3, after Uncharted 2 of course
Didn't like the game at all, it's all about learning patterns and trying and dying :S There are so many cheap deaths in the game I couldn't get myself to continue it :S IMO there's a huge difference between difficulty you need skill to overcome and difficulty you just have to know how to react on an enemy animation :S

You do need skill to overcome DS enemies, that is what makes the game so good
It's fun at first, but after a while, it's just a memory game. "down the corridor, blob on the right, block right away, wait for the two dogs at the door...." it would be different it the enemies reacted differently each time or spawned at different locations with a slightly lighter difficulty setting, but honestly, the deaths are cheap and the game gets redundant after a while. If i wanted to test my memory, I'll go study a dictionary. Gameplay, graphics, and production value are top notch, but i just dont think the game is challenging if it's all about trial and error to memorize every enemy location pattern.

IMO it's no skill to learn patterns, everyone can do it, it just takes some time until you recognize them :S I don't see any fun in this :S
It not as hard as everyone says it is, when I played it I was thinking "thuis will be the hardest game ever" and it really wasn't, I played a lot harder. Also the bosses are really easy, I usally got it on the first try and if I died I usally got them the next round, both times without help from anyone. It was very rare I need help from someone in the game (actually only once) and that was agaisn't the maneaters. It was also very rare that I died more then twice on a boss, I think the most I died on a boss was only 4 times and that was one boss
One of the best games this generation. And, if you go at it without using any guides or youtube tutorials, then yes, it is challenging.
The game isn't all that great. They tried to hard to make it hard, yet it was extremely easy depending on how you manage your character. 3 of the bosses in the game i don't even know what they look like because I would just stand at the entrance and kill them from a distance. The whole die and start over crap isn't fun, it's just irritating and most people would just give up on the game and sell it.
I want to start it tonight too but Fallout NV has taken up ALL my spare time...and then some.
But I need to get on Demons Souls soon before the hackers destroy it or figure out a way to steal all our PSN Store information.
I'm gonna venture a guess this will be one of the first games they'll go after.
awesome game, don't listen to anyone in here ripping on it. its just a game that requires a tiny bit of strategy and patience. most of the people i've talked to who don't like it arepeople that are used to games that hold you by the hand and walk you through.
It is a great game, very atmospheric. But at the same time it is also very easy assuming you are careful. It is dangerous to go alone, take this *gives you a shield*. Some bosses are a blast to fight as well, some of the best I have fought this generation. But some are a complete let down unfortunately.
If it is too hard you could always summon blue phantoms (other players) however.
Yeah, I said that, I think this game is great but a bit too easy, here is a hoping they add difficulty options in DS2 and Project Dark.
