So after the recent disappointment with a game dependent on motion controls and nothing really useful with this feature (snake cam, shaking it in sigma, shaking in RFOM, driving in motorstorm [which I did once and quickly went back to analog]), do you guys still think there's a future for sixaxis or was it a failed attempt to be innovative?

BTW, I totally support a company trying to bring something new to market ala sixaxis but I think if they do so they should keep what hasn't proved to be broken, e.g., rumble.

I really think that this question we should be asking after Ratchet comes out. Because so far that use of the six axis for controlling the tornado and the gun drone actually seems like a good idea whereas a lot of what has been done so far has always seemed like it was put in for the sake of putting it in.

do realize that this is year one and not every game is motion...and also about 50-75% of Lair owners say controls are easy for them

The motion sensing has been put into a good use in a few games. The future is still bright for the sixaxis.

I think as it is (i.e. embedded in the standard controller), it's a mistake. However I do believe in motion sensing controllers in general. The Wii incorporated it very nicely, but then it seems like the motion sensing controls are a focal point of the Wii. In the PS3, it is more of a secondary add-on feature, that most of the time you have the option to turn off (sort of like the rumble used to be) and when motion controls are incorporated as a central feature it doesn't show good results so far (hint Lair). The most promising use of the Sixaxis I think is in Ratchet and Clank. But again, those are just secondary controls.

I still believe there will be good uses for the sixaxis in the future.

I can't wait for the playstation eye though. It looks so cool. I hope there are good games for it.

I think it's a little early to crucify sixaxis... given time, I think it'll do well, provided it's properly utilised. Any new innovation takes a while to pickup.

Well, unless I'm very much mistaken, there -is- the option for analogue only, in Warhawk... I've only played once using Sixaxis on there... the rest of the time, I'm on the sticks.

I kind of wish that they just had the plain ol controller w/ or w/o dual shock because i could really care less about that either. Sony didnt need to add anything to the controller or take anything away....It was perfect the way it was on the ps2. Ohhh....on second thought the fact that its wireless is awesome. :]

I bought Lair without even thinking if the sixaxis will work or not, when i played it it was bad at first but i got use to it and its all okay now and its fun. i dont even believe reviews anymor except when the reviewer is Greg Kasavin, his review are always on the mark. I think its more personal preference than your traditional pick and play controller

I think it's still an innovative piece of technology that will be featured better in future games. I can say this because I actually do believe they pulled it off nicely in Lair, one of the keynotes for full on Sixaxis without analog option. It's somewhat frustrating to see why many reviewers and players alike are having a hard time with it. I think if anything, Sixaxis failed for Motorstorm. Otherwise, I've been under the personal impression that it's been good.

Well it didn't do so hot because it was a half assed atempt to compete with the wii. If you want to do that type of thing then you have to go all out like the wii did. There's not much fun in just shaking a controller around.

I think that the Sixaxis still has some potential... I just dont think it shouldnt take a major influence on the actual movement of your character i.e steering in Motorstorm...

When put in such a big roll it can make the game difficult to play and thus not fun...

But to control little things like the weapons in Ratchet.. i think thats what the sixaxis should be used for..

To try to control a characters movements using the sixaxis is not only hard but very embarassing!!

No matter if you think there are already cool uses of it or not (I think there is by the way), you can't blame the controller for the way the devs are using it. That's like a kid blaming his toy for breaking when he dropped it down the stairs. It's not the fault of the item, it's the fault of the way that item is used.

i was never a big fan of waving my hands around like a maniac....wii rip-off or not, i dont really like it...im a button masher not a hand waver. granted, in games like warhawk, LAIR, Ace Combat, etc. it would be more intuitive to use the sixaxis, but in games like Folklore and NBA 07, etc. it just annoys me to no end.

1- give some examples of rumble being used? rumble in its lifetime has never amounted to more then virbrating when shooting....whcih is far from immersive eg- you dont need your tv remote to vibrate to be immersed in the film "apocolysp now" 2- when the dual ananlog sticks were first introduced on the ps1 nothing used it. games will come out which will make good use of it, most likly racing games.

i believe that it does work already its fine in warhawk and probobly in some games to come butthe publishers should just keep it as and option and not force it upon you like lair did some people will want to play with analog and some with the six axis i believe it works just fine they should just keep it as an option or with some speciallty weopons or other things and not all games should have it.but like i said before its what i believe and not necisaraly what should happen it would make a good game some day but not right now while people are still getting used to it to come out with a game with overly hard controlls.

Thank you, I was wondering when someone would mention this. The stance changes and rolling using the Sixaxis is great! Features like this, that complement the main controls are great! I however prefer not using the Sixaxis as the primary control method.

But using it to control things like the Hoverboard in UT3, and the weapons in Ratchat and Clank look to be great uses. There are tons of ways to exploit the Sixaxis controls without having to use it only.

Primevil702

But then what's the point? I'm not saying it has to replace analog or the dpad but if it's just to control insignificant things like a snake cam or a hoverboard, was it really worth it? Some people miss rumble now. Would anyone miss sixaxis if it wasn't in PS4?
