step 1: pick a character your comfortable to become you main, use him/her 99% of the time
step 2: do your characters trials, its basically a tutorial for your characters combos
step 3: go to free training and master those combos learnt in trial mode
step 4: practise, practise, practise, go to player mode online (the unranked one) and play as many games as you can, try to find someone with a good connection you can add to your friends list to become your "sparring partner" where you can constantly fight over and over.
step 5: Finally when your full of confidence and your skill level is up to scratch, hit the ranked mode online and watch your battle points rise and rise!!!
