I bought the game, and I cannot do any ultra or super moves. It's just impossible to land them when you want. The ps3 d-pad and the analogue stick suck with the half circle half circle then 3xpunch combo. Plus I want to ask isn't L1 supposed to = 3xPunch then why the hell should I press square, triangle and R1 to execute the ultra ?? any tricks on executing the moves will be appreciated. Thank you.

I believe L2 and R2 are 3P and 3K, respectively, like it usually is in any SF game. Check the button configurations.

If it is like any fight game, you should be able to go into options and button configuration and set the triple punch / kick to a button (but I won't know for sure until I get off of work).

Buy the $40 SF4 gamepad if you don't to cough up for a joystick.

Or, suck it up and get used to it.

Yeah, you're just going to have to get used it if you don't want to drop money on a stick. I too suffer a bit from the PS3 controller, but I know with practice I'll get used to it. It's difficult at first, but I find myself getting a little better each time I play. Eventually I might get a better controller, but for now I have to stick with the regular one because I haves no money...

I feel you man. Im a regular blanka user and it really sucks to have to go through so much to do a damn ultra move. Its so easy to accidently tap the up or down keys when you need to go from left to right back to left in an instant. Im getting better at it though, just practice practice practice. thats all i can say. The more u practice the more frequently youll be able to execute it.

This might sound weird, but I use a combination of both the thumb-stick and the d-pad. For basic special attacks, and for most of my fighting I use the d-pad.
But when I want to pull off a move that requires a complete rotation, I use the stick.
It wasn't too difficult to get used to switching between the two as needed.

Only have one thing to tell you, Stop sucking!

you can go to options and set up the controls however you like, alot of people who play SF dont keep it at default alot of people costumize them to how they like it.

Also i know Seth is a gay ass boss and the guy who created him should go die, but honestly hes not that hard.

like i said above, stop sucking.

ok i dont know if anyones told you this already, but you can change the controls, i have it set up so the L1 is on the "square" and the R2 on the "X" like that i can do the ultras with no problems, just play with the controls until you find one you like, im actually thinking of just inverting the L buttons with the R's and it should do the trick just fine as well.

I recommend any newcomers to start playing akuma, his ultras/ supers are easiest to do with a controller. And the game does take practice, I played for 2 weeks or so and finally I can kick ass in medium hard.

In all honesty if u plan on playing this game more than 1 or 2 months, i highly suggest getting a joystick. The reason being that not only will you not get calluses anymore from too much friction wit ur pad, but a joystick will actually help improve ur skills. Imagine this, when u r playing on a ps3 controller u r using 2 thumbs to input commands. When u r using a joystick u are using ur whole left hand and wrist and 5 fingers on ur right hand. It doesnt take much math to see which one is able to get more inputs in. Faster and more accurate inputs = improved skill. Also continuous friction on a ps3 controller will wear both the controller and ur thumb down. Excessive usage of force on ur thumb can and probably will cause some permanant damage in the future. In addition, if u play on a joystick, u rarely stop playing because ur fingers hurt or u thumbs hurt. Its more to that fact that ur just plain tired from too much play, this means that u will also get more practice in since u wont have to worry about pain. However, if u r just playing for a few weeks, then disregard this post.

I just got mine yesterday. Believe me, the gamepad's hard to find, and people just laugh at you when you ask them about the arcade stick.

I brought an arcade stick for this game, but i am a big fan of this game. Others can just but the mad catz pad, kinda lik the old mega drive one with 6 buttons on the face.

I use th ps3 pad sometimes and its fine for me. plying street fighter is lik plying a guitar, just takes practice until ur skins hardens LOL

I love fighting games and have been playing sf2 since it came out. I have to agree that in order to get the most out of sf4 and other arcade type brawlers, you have to get an arcade stick. The hori and mad catz arcade sticks are the best. DO NOT GET IMITATION/CHINA MADE STICKS. To play with the normal controller, i and my hardcore fighting buds find that holding the controller with your left hand as normal, while your right hand as if your fingers are poised to play on an arcade stick is the way to go to be able to perform those hard to do moves. Basically pointy finger on x or square, middle finger on triangle, and o. For simultaneus two button presses for throws, counters, etc. either the pointy/middle or pointy/thumb would be best suited. But the first two fingers For the shoulder buttons, just practice hitting them fast enough till your comfortable. It also helps if your on a good sitting position and you hold the controller against your lap or a padded table for added support and stability when performing quick moves or combos. (",)

I didn't find much difference between the gamepad and the PS3 controller. I got my one of the MadKatz fightsticks though and I have to say it hasn't improved my game any. Maybe I need to just practice a bit more. I do like the fact that all the buttons I need are right there and much easier to press.

all i can say is...practice, practice, practice...it's definitley one of the harder fighting games that i've played recently, but it's such a great game that the trial and error is worth it. go into the training portion of the game and practice. truth is just when i think i'm getting better at this game i get my @$$ handed to me.
