So I just hit 100 online matches tonight. It was nice to get the trophy, but then I looked at my stats and saw my win percentage: 16%. I've won 16 out 100 matches.

Is this so bad that I should just give up? I never seem to get any better. (this isn't my first SF, by the way - I've played them all, though only casually with friends)

Naw. I wouldn't say I'm real great at SFIV, but I still play it all the time. Add me so we can fight.

no one starts out a pro. just play with people at your level and get a grip of how the game works. learn from your losses too.

If you actually have SF in your avatar and sig, I'm willing to bet that you're much better than me. :P

How do you play with people at your level? It keeps matching me with people who have 2000+ points (though I never have more than 100-200).

100 matches isn't much, not if you 'think' you're playing serious at least.

But as for whether you're gonna give up or not, it really comes down to your own interest. Its your choice to decide to go serious and drill the game every day of the week, or just treat it like a casual having-friends-over sort of game.

If you decide to play serious however, I guarantee you the road won't be easy, trust me I know.

I'm terrible at SFIV, but I stll play it because it's so much fun. Even with all the losses I still get better each time I play. I wouldn't give up unless the losing just frustrates you to no end.

Its not all about stats, I mean you cant really play it "competitively" online with lag and what not. I'm sure there are really good people who play online but as far as being the best, you gotta take that to local matches/tournaments and what not. either way to answer your concern/question, absolutely not, the more you play is just more practice so you WILL get better regardless. If the trophy was all you were after then i guess you can stop playing online. as far as SF4 goes, its a great fighting game for the fans and other casual players like myself, i would definitely keep on playing.

Pfft, oh please. I think the only reason why I even win is because I use Zangief. If I didn't use him I'd have like 2%.

If you really intend to become better at this game then 100 online matches aint gonna cut it. The tricky part about learning this game by yourself is analyzing your matches and figure out what you're doing wrong. It's always easier having someone familiar with the game to point out the weak points to your game than figuring it out yourself, especially if you dont know what you're doing wrong in the first place. If you have a mic and willing to learn then add me ID: NotoriousDIEP and i'll see if i can help.

Fighting games require immense dedication. If it's something you really want to get good at, then you have the potential for it. It's simply a matter of how much time you're willing to invest into getting good.

Yeah, I'm not trying to play "serious." I don't ever expect to be really great at it... I just wish I didn't have to endure 20-match losing streaks every time I go online. :P But it's good to hear from some of the people in this thread that I'm not the only one having trouble.

You gotta fix your Mistakes. Can't you block Crossups? Learn to do so. Do you jump too much and eat Shoryuken all day? Stop jumping that much. Do you block low/high according to your Opponents Attacks? As a rule of thumb: Block low when he's on the ground and High when he's coming from the Air. Don't mash/spam Attacks - you will get punished for it.. And the list goes on. Just notice what you are doing wrong and don't make your mistakes in the next match.

You should have picked SF4 when it was released, it was much easier to get the online trophies back then as everyone was pretty much a noob. Now its full of pros and even Im having a hard time and I reckon Im not too bad of a Street Fighter. My win % is 63% btw and I have played over 1000 fights. I suggest you dont over-do it with special moves whilst fighting and try to keep a combo going as it helps alot.

If you have friends who are better than you and know what they're doing, let them help you improve your game.

Learn which moves are safe and which ones are unsafe in various conditions.

Know the character matchups. You should know your fighter's strengths and weaknesses against other fighters.

Go to Shoryuken.com. They have character-specific forums where you can get help.

I did pick it up when it was released. I remember getting my ass kicked back then too... Which is probably why it took my so long to bother playing to 100 matches, lol.

If You dont already have super turbo hd remix,I would try playing as a counter to SFIV,even though so much is different between them,it can give You a sense of how things are designed to work, plus the contrast should motivate You for more SFIV(super turbo can be crap sometimes lol)

It takes years to get really good at a fighter, and almost obssesion to be tourny caliber, if you have always played casually just for fun, not so much in a pursuit to increase your skills, continue to do that. Don't worry about what your win% is, just have fun with it.

I stopped playing because I kept dying. I don't mind dying a lot in fighters though, it was just the cheapness of the AI that turned me off really quick. I HATE multiple throws in a row.

Id try out some new characters. I started out playing with Ryu, Ken, and Sagat. I am HORRIBLE with Ryu and Ken. I was ok w/ Sagat, but thats just b/c he's a monster. Once I branched out, I had much more success online with Chun Li and Dhalsim. Plus, they are way more enjoyable to play IMO. If you suck at combos like me, try picking up Dhalsim. I don't know a single combo, and Im prettycompetitivein championship mode G2 with him. I lose more than I win, but every match is down to the wire most of the time. His mind games are awesome, he just takes a little while to get used to. Expect to get abused for the first week.

haha, you're taking it too seriously. You should see me play BlazBlue. I'm HORRIBLE. I've never won a single match. I'm kicked from games all the time because I can't get past level 1 in my status. Don't worry about it.
