I agree with everything you've listed. The only thing I would add is I would like to see the stylized 3D graphics like in the trailer but the game remain in its "2D" view as the updated graphics. Not just redesigned 2D sprites. I wasn't sure which direction you were going when you said "remain 2D with updated graphics". :D

It'll still be good in 3D just as long as they allow the fireball to chase your opponent like in dragon ball and use motion capture... I just wouldn't want to see another 2D fighter not for the ps3....... 2D fighter and 2d game in general belong in psp or on the ps3 store for under 20 dollar...

Not big on the Street Fighter, but making it 3D would seem rather pointless as the real hook of SF is that it's 2D. Don't think it would be anything special compared to Tekken and Virtua Fighter if it was 3D

capcom can go crazy with the art direction. Just as long as the games plays in 2D.

I would really like for them to keep 2D but with "okami" visuals and make it like Street Fighter 3 with those catchy soundtracks.

Haha sounds like my post on the Capcom Community site xP

I hope it's 2D as well along with alot of others. SFEX was crap it didn't feel like SF nor played like it or had the speed.

3D just can't give the feeling 2D gives i think that has been proven over and over by now.

Yes, the trailer is a CGI 3-D intro, but there's no need to panic, at least from our source which tells us the game will be in 2-D with spruced up graphics that will put SFIII3S to shame. If Capcom decides to follow through on their arcade release, expect to see it on Taito's Type X2, which is also supported by SNK Playmore. SF IV will be presented with HD graphics in a 16:9 frame ratio. Further details and footage will likely be shown at the AOU Show in Japan in February 2008.

Taken from Capcom-Unity...

That Taito X2 is what powered KOF XI (which in my opinion looked really nice, better than the other KOF series).

More info about the game will be made public on Friday after the media embargo has ended (also from C-U).

I think that they should have graphics similar to the trailer( with how the lightin was for the character and stuff). also I think they should have it a little like rival schools.

i kinda like the look of the trailer. 3d models, only cel shaded with lots of detail to make them still look like the previous versions. but ive never gotten into the sf series anyway. ive only played them a bit in arcades. im sure the hardcore fans will insist on 2d.

Keep it 2D! Some nice clean #D-ish backgrounds would be sweet, but please, keep the game @D, every 3D SF game has sucked bad

Fighters are a thing of the past. They were only successful because, at arcades, you could go toe to toe with someone as the crowd cheered you on. However, playing games online does not replicate this feeling. So,in response to oneposters comment, this game will never be bigger than MGS or KZ2, i doubt it even will sell well.

Just boot up an old SF if you want 2D fighting. If 3D SF failed before it doesn't mean it will now. They have the power of the PS3 and they should be able to make the fight mechanics satisfying in 3D. How long are you going to play it if you just move back and forth, jump fire balls and get pushed to the edge of the screen? If it's going to be 2D just make it in a month and have it avaible as a $10 download.

I actualy liked the SFEX series. 2D is great and all that, but Cmon this is the next generation ppl! If capcom can't pull it off with 3D then their not really good devolepers.

BTW Powerstone is capcoms best 3d fighter to date. So I know they can pull it off.

also I'm still waiting for the next gen onimusha ^_^

The game is so good because it is in 2D. Throwing fireballs and sonic booms in 3D doesn't have the same gameplay effects.

Mortal Kombat is the same way. Trying to make it 3D failed every time. This is why Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 where the best ones.

2D is dead and buried........ There are no 2d game that come in a retail box for 360 or PS3....... If Street Fighter cant adapt to 3D than the franchise is dead.........

The streetfighter franchise is huge. This franchise is bigger and has grossed more money then MGS. If this game is made exclusive to the PS3 or the other platform, the platform without this will die. I remember that streetfighter 2 turbo in the early 90s, single handedly saved the SuperNES from the genesis. There was a genesis version, but it wasn't as good. SuperNEs strated flying off shelves.

Fighters are a thing of the past right now because their not making them. The ones that do come out are the old ones from the 90s. If they reinvent the wheel and bring something new to the table in terms of the fighting engine, the days of the fighters will be reborn.

If you haven't noticed shooters are on their way out, because very time a new one pops up on the market, it brings nothing new to the table.

It better be 2D.

I don't care how much they want to better the graphics as long as it remains 2D. That's what makes it Street Fighter.

Either way, true street fighter fans are soon going to be pleased. If IV turns out to be another EX plus alpha we still have the HD remix to look forward to, and all I need to know is that one way or another I will be street fighting in widescreen 1080p online. To those that say stuff like " If Capcom can't do 3D they're talentless" you just don't have a clue. Sure there have been many decent 3D fighters and a few great and although the true answer is impossible to determine, the best fighter ever is a street fighter - I vote Alpha 3but it's only true competition is within it's own franchise. BEAT 'EM UP GUY!

Street Fighter purists can play Street Fighter III Alpha Turbo Omega Vs Disney if they want the same old 2D experience. I'm even willing to bet that most of them will not even give a chance to a 3D Street Fighter.

Street Fighter IV is a new game and must change many things. I really liked the trailer, they should use cel-shaded 3D graphics to make the game look like the trailer. They can also tweak the gameplay by adding moves, a sidestep maybe if it is 3D.

I have a feeling that Capcom wants to make this a truly "new" game and bring SF into the third dimension.  Remember, they have SF2 HD Remix coming soon, so there IS a 2D SF with updated graphics already on the way.  Expect SF4 to break the mold.

I agree with most of the things the author listed. The gameplay might probably turn out to be something like Naruto, seeing as how the graphics in the SF trailer are similar to the graphics in that game. Also, if Capcom does decide to have returning characters and have a deep roster,I pray they don't be like DBZ: Tenkaichi and make the controls and movesets either the same or very similar for every character.

If I wanted to play another 2d street fighter I would just hook up my snes what's seriously the point to keeping it 2d anything they could do last generation... What's seriously the point n keeping it 2D unless you were going to make it a 10 dollar download or sumthin. If it's 3D I hope it has the speed of a 2d fighter with some extra stuff to it.

well we are in the next gen era, so...the best would be sf4 to be 3d having all the good sides of the typical 2d sf, and this is where capcom will have a hard time.

Making sf 3d as good as it is 2d? hmm start working devs...you guys will have serious headhakes on this one :P

pjoasil

1. Yeah I agree

2. Online yes, since SSF2THD will have it. But NO to tag team. Why? Well do you want Street Fighter or a Marvel vs Street Fighter type of game? Slapping that on regular SF is completely retarded

3. It's been said that the roster will have 18. Since it's Street Fighter 4, they're going with the storyline. All characters cannot be there if it's an official canon game.

4. Well ofcoarse everybody will have a story

5. They've always had new moves added in pretty much every SF game

6. Again, it's SF4. Same as above.

And please don't bring Halo or Metal Gear into this...

I hope is 3D. Capcom only did one 3D street fighter, although wasn't very good but witht he power of the next gen system, it has every chance to be as good as Tekken or SC. They shuold have some sort of cut-scene just like Tekken to make the matches more meaningful.

Or maybe they can do 2D like gameplay with 3D polygons. That way it can shut boths sides up lol (2D vs 3D)

I would love this game to be in 2D. As for the characters. I enjoyed the decent amount of characters that were in 3s. It would be easier to balance the characters more.
