I am on the diplomatic immunity quest and i cannot get the key for the reeking caves. the prisoner was killed by the guards. I killed every single guard in the embassy and cannot find the key anywhere. please help

I haven't been there yet, but sometimes the keys are in chests you need to lockpick

I got the key from one of the guards. Check the bodies. And the other guy is right: Always state the game, even if it is obvious to many people.

I'm not sure if the question's still active, but I think I understand the issue you're having. It's entirely likely that you got the interrogation chamber key from either the chest or that thalmor wizard interrogator. One you've killed all the hostiles, there should be a dossier on Esbern in the chest downstairs. The important thing to understand is that you can't simply add it to your inventory. You MUST open the dossier and begin to read it for the next part of the quest to become active. Once the next aspect of the quest logs, then the next sequence of events will start. I won't give spoilers, but things start happening once you've opened the dossier on Esbern. Hope that helps.
