An HDMI cable is an HDMI cable. They all cost a dollar to make and the only reason some are so expensive is because of the name. You're fine with the generic HDMI cable you've got. Getting a Monster cable won't improve it at all.

Like the poster above said, cheap HDMI cables work exactly the same as the expensive ones, but you may have an older version HDMI cable (1.0, 1.1), which might not look as good as the newer ones.

Of course this is just speculation and I'm not really sure that it would make a difference, but you can get a new one from Amazon for 3 or 4 dollars, so it might be worth a shot.

That could be it. If you really want to replace it, here's a super cheap 2 meter cable. 99% off list price.

Some ways your right and some ways your not. Some HDMI cables are what they call "in wall certified" which means the coating/housing of the cable is better and less electric interference. These cables are made so they can go through walls that have electric wires right by them. If you you use any HDMI cable you will get lines through your picture. Another thing you got to look for in an HDMI cable is what Hertz it can do. If you have a TV that does 120 or 240 you shouldn't buy or use a cable that only does 60. If you do you ain't taking full advantage of your TVs performance. But over all you are right. I wouldn't worry about gold plating or oxygen injected stuff because the enhancement is not that noticeable. All my HDMI cables I use are rocketfish, dynex, insigna best buy brand cables and they work just fine and are cheap.

PS3s require HDCP 1.3 to use.

That's about all that matters. The HDMI cable doesn't really matter if its some BS Monster cable at 100+$ per cable or a 10 dollar Mediabridge (what I use, and it's performed flawless for me, I ordered 5 more for my family with their PS3s and DVD players and stuff) from amazon.

As long as its 3-4m or under, any cheap HDMI 1.3 cable will do. I got these and they work great. http://www.amazon.com/Fanatic-Digital%C2%AE-Cable-2-Plated-Ferrite/dp/B0011TM19C/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1266461700&sr=8-6

1) There are different versions of HDMI cables. The PS3 is optimized for use with a version 1.3. That may be your issue. 2) Different manufactuaers have different levels of quality (despite what some on the forums say). If you must get a new one, try the one made for the PS3. It's nowhere near as expensive as the Monster cables.

Prime example of what I just said. Just cause something is cheap, doesn't mean you're getting what you paid for.

If it looks like crap then its probably your cable, because HDMI is quite the amazing video cable. Yours is probably a older one. Go to Wal Mart (ewwwey) and get yourself a cheap new version. Thats what I did. Its really nice and has metal ends, (the part you grip to pull it out). Its a Tevion cable and it works great! Its more sturdy looking that one of those Monster cables and its really heavy duty. Im serious dude look up the Tevion HDMI Cable. You wont be sorry =]

I love how so many people on these boards think everything is the same dont matter what. There is a difference it has been explained millions of times before. If it was a simple as sending 1's and 0's all or nothing there would be no reason for HDMI in the first place. The PS3 is capable of sending a very high bit rate with 1080p and 7.1 audio, so you want a cable that can handle that. It is suggested to get a cable that can handle 8 Gbps. Monster makes them but so do other companies, if you look online you can get them for about $20 instead of the $150 monster charges.

I actually got one of those from amazon, but it was $0.10 at the time. Shipping is like $2.50 though. Anywho, it works just like my 3 other hdmi cables, one of them from microsoft, which cost me $50, but i needed the audio connector it came with so I could hook up an optical cable to the 360.

It's not a choice between dirt cheap cables and ludicrously expensive Monster cables - go over to Amazon and find yourself a nice $20 - $30 cable (they've got a zillion different brands) if it makes you feel better.

Basically, the dirt cheap ones work perfectly. The mid-priced ones work perfectly, and they've got extra insulation and thicker conductors and prettier plugs. And the Monster cables work perfectly, and they make good money for Best Buy when the salesman can sell them to people who know absolutely nothing about home electronics equipment.
