I am thinking of getting a ps3 and want to know if the 40 gb truly has no backwards compatibility. Also is this a good time to buy one or should I wait a couple of weeks?

Sure, why not get it now? Now is a GREAT time to own one. 40 gig has NO PS2 backwards compatibility but has PS1 BC. It has no guts on the inside for PS2.
if u want bc go with the 80gb model. that's what i did. i also thought "hey, it also comes with a game!" but motorstorm is pretty much total garbage imo. but i love having bc. my suggestion is get the 80gb and trade motorstorm back in.
well can they add ps2 compatibility with a update. I got a ps1, but no ps2 desided to switch sides but all it has given me is problems. Gamecube had no games, and 360 is broken right next to me.

If you want TRUE backwards compatiblity, you should really go with the 60 gig. The 60 gig has 99% backwards compatibility and the 80 gig has about 70%+ BC.
