Surprised with dead island :)

Some while ago i was reading about this game, it looked ok and then it came out, i saw a couple of reviews that said the game wasnt so good

here in gamespot got a 7... meaning its good with a tendency to "okay" more than "awesome"

anyways, after i while i was thinking, this game didnt really make it... until i picked up a copy

its crazy fun! yes the graphics are not the best (i dont care), the characters are weak and they voice sucks, thats true, they are extremly stereotyped and they are just stupid... besides that, that also bothers me but not so much cause at least in this game the gameplay shines, its extremly fun to kill zombies, i think they really pulled that really good...

i had a hard time putting the game waway for more than one day... anyways, im really surprised cause i didnt expect this game to be so much fun...

it will be awesome if the story and the characters where better.. besides that.. i highly recommed this game :D

I thought it was an awesome game, like you said the story and characters aren't great, but the gameplay is so fun that it really makes up for it. Plus if you think about it, it's a zombie game, zombie movies/games aren't really known for the story, and if that's what your looking for your looking for your in the wrong place.

I got it for cheap on Black Friday last year. I had seen the ho-hum reviews as well, and read all about the bad collision detection and blah blah blah. Once I started playing it, I instantly loved it. I didn't notice any bad collision detection, and can only assume that's something they fixed with a patch.

I actually liked it even more than Left 4 Dead. The melee-focused combat and never-ending weapon hunt is just so awesome. Was totally addicted to it for a month or two, and got 3 of my friends into it as well.

and i updated the game before i played so maybe i didnt feel any problem while playing it.

gameplay stands up for weak story and characters (specially the ones you can choose)

for example you can choose 4, when i just put the game i was expecting for the worst when one of the characters said "yeah, im cool, im a retired quaterback and voted the sexiest player on the league.... " i mean... thats just poor.. i would like to think the character selection was aiming for teenagers that like to pick a stereotyped rapper called Sam B! or a ex quarterback that speaks like a retard but again the game is rated +18... so... i guess it should be more serious... but besides that, the gameplay its amazing and makes you forget all the poor characters...

i think the gane will gain if they have "normal" people as characters to select... that will be an improvement

cant wait for dead island 2.. if they make it :D

the weapons breaking down i think its great, i think maybe it will be more boring if they dont cause sometimes it gives you the idea of urgency when your weapon is breaking down...

That is the main drawback, the missions lack difference. If/when they make a Dead Island 2 they need to make more diverse missions somehow. Once I got into the city I was ready to be done with the game. But it did hold my complete attention until the last few missions.

I didn't like the game.

I thought Dead Island was great. It gave me what i wanted; an expansive first person zombie adventure.

It did have a rocky launch, what with all the glitches and stuff, but the patches actually fixed all that. And sadly yes, the characters and story sucked and there were a lot of graphical quirks, especially in cutscenes (Xian Mei's eyes are always looking in seperate directions). But it's still fun.

As said before, it does get repetitive after you leave the resort, and starts to drag at the town part (human enemies suck), but i thought it picked up nicely towards the end.

Hacking through zombies with a flaming machete is exactly what i wanted to do, and Dead Island let me do that as much as i wanted to.

Personally I tapped out half way through the game. It was just way to repetitive. And I also did not like that the zombies respawning over and over. At least have some areas clear out. And having all of them also level up with you just seemed like something pointless added to the game. The whole lvling system in general did not need to be in the game.

I also avoided this title after the initial reviews. I was put off after the AMAZING trailer was followed by some less than impressive screens and gameplay vids which made it look terrible. The trailer made it look like and emotional story driven adventure game but when further details emerged I was very disappointed to see a hack and slash first person crapfest. However I did eventually get around to playing it and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It's an amazingly fun game to play and works really well. Enough so that a sequel will be released next year. Good game but don't expect anything too deep.withe1982

Yeah i think when you see the bad things about the game (any game) and put them in a review and make it look stupid on porpuse...well a lot of people wont get it

like in GS review when they show a lil part of the trailer and then the gameplay of you jumping in bed... well.. that sucks... but besides the review i loaned a copy from a friend and love it.. nothing like give a zombie a electroshock... i didnt enjoy the shooting part as much, its something about stab a zombie with a kitchen knive that never gets boring...

and yeah some parts and specially cutscenes look horrible, looks like is ps2 game or something,. jahahaha but besides that i enjoyed the game and i think it didnt got the score it deserved, not a masterpiece but a god damn fun game

I thought Dead Island wasn't really that good at all, and I like zombie games. When I saw the videos for it I just couldn't wait to play it, and I pre-ordered it. After waiting for it to come out I just couldn't wait to play it, and at first I thought it was really good. The first couple of areas were great like the Hotel Resort and the Town/Supermarket are the only two good areas and then the game went downhill from there and it sucked. Oh well I atleast I still have the Dead Rising games to play, which are really great games that are alot of fun to play.

I had been tracking the game since 2006 and almost lost hope for it at one point. Then I heard it was still being made and the more I heard about, the more I was anticipating it's long due release. It quickly became my most anticipated game in recent memory. Upon release it wasn't quite the GOTY experience I was hoping for because of the weakness of the story and characters with a lack of emotional connection, but the gameplay and environments (especially the tropical resort) were brilliant. The multi-layered damage system makes brutally beating zombies to death really addicting, and the RPG elements were nice to see. Overall I was satisfied with Dead Island, and am looking forward to the sequel titles Dead Island: Riptide. :)

Even more impressive is the visual quality that is sustained, especially the draw distance over such a massive area when high up. Super fun game!
