hi, i just bought a 1080p 40" sony bravia and it refuses to switch to detect the hdmi cable.....i tried turning it on and holding the button until it beeps and it still doesnt work....can someone plz help me

Boot it up with the composite cables hooked up and then switch it manually,

Do what the last gentleman said.  Boot it with both cables connected (composite and hdmi), the go to display settings and switch over to hdmi. Oh, and  make sure that you don't use "monster" brand hdmi - they don't work.
