How do people cope with losing. I mean I've been on losing football teams, basketball teams, and it hurts. but for some reason when I lose online in a game that same fire and rage flows and i lose it. I guess I'm an angry gamer, but I had the worse day today in terms of games. In SFIV, I went from having 3,000 BP to 2008 BP, because of all the system fighters and ppl starting there profile over to attempt to get a better record. All pro football, I never lost 3 times in a row but it happened today I was 12th rank too. Fight night rd3, damn rapid jab killed me to hell with those glitchers. On NBA 2k I play with the Bulls, 47% win senario now because the whole damn world picks the cavs, lakers, magic, and suns sports game is full of bandwagoners. Virtua fighter 5, im losing it in skills. Only salvation today was COD4, there's no winner and loser in war. I'm hurt right now too so gaming is all i got until i recovered. After today I'm gonna stick with solo gaming and COD. Anyone have any advice on when i should make a comback or what will be the right time to comeback to online competitive gaming. My bro said i burnt out, im jus so angry i don't know what to do.

i was like you for quite a while in my life. The answer really, is either play more or just quit playing that particular game. If you know that game is really fun but just too competitive and the skill level is too high, you just have to practice more. The truth is, the emphasis on practicing is way too underrated these days. You go on the forums and ask people an advice and all you get is a casual reply of practice more, you might think that guy either just don't understand you or is just too talented in nature.

Honestly saying, and I do have experience in this kind of stuff, everyone that feels the desire to stay in a competitive level have to practice a lot, dedicating a crapload of time into it. Truth is people spend hours and hours trying to figure out the combos and exploits in a given game, learning every bit of mechanic that would surely be an advantage to he who knows about it. And again, just spend however much time into a skill is directly linked to how good you're going to be.

And if you don't feel like dedicating as much time as everyone else is, you may as well just quit playing, because you're never going to beat them if you decide to stay at that level. Just like me quitting starcraft, I love the game, its extremely deep and by far the most competitive game in the world right now, but I just don't have the time to dedicate into playing nothing else for the rest of the year.

yeah man, i feel you. To practice though is tuff because the AI nowadays doesn't prepare you for the gritty, nasty, disgusting realm we call the internet. I wish i had all day to practitce like that but i dont think i can sit there and do that with a game, I'm too active in lifestyle and wouldnt feel right at all. I can't give up, but people really do that type of stuff. Jus sit there for hours trying to master and find glitches and combos in games huh. Wow, i can't even imagine

well instead of figuring out everything by yourself, theres always the internet available, just around shoryuken.com or even gamefaqs for character guides, knowing combos and stuff isn't really the hard part, you just need to practice.

I play games less and less now.....must be the combined effects of being jobless, busting my ass with schoolwork and generally having few games worth playing again.......when i do play its usually only short periods of time and i generally dont accomplish anything, ive been playing my third play of fallout 3 for over a month now and have barely cracked level 10, wandering the wastes just seems more fun and relaxing.

How do people cope with losing.

BTMSlayer

Because we "people" have lives and better things to worry about. People like me for instance, play to have fun. I may get into a game I'm playing and immerse myself. But I still know it's just a video game. Sure, poorly programmed games may irk me sometimes, but that's because my money went to a game that sucked. Winning or losing isn't life or death. It's just a video game. There's nothing at risk here. Either you realise that or stop playing and maybe seek help.

People like to get competitive into games because the satisfaction gained from winning an intense match feels really good. At that level then a game transcends into becoming a sport, and playing at the your best does become 'fun'.

But it's taken way too seriously. Go into a fit of rage...?? Seriously? If you can't handle something like playing a video game against someone else, then you shouldn't play against anyone. I've come across so many people online who are "like that" and whine and cry foul because they got shot by a gun they aren't using. Act like they're ten seconds away from slitting their wrists. I'm competitive myself. I still know it's just a game and all in good fun. If I lose, I don't care. Nothing is lost.

Also, it is NOT a sport. Just the same as playing poker isn't a sport.

Whether or not e-sport is indeed a 'sport' is debatable, but in the least it is competitive and some people do make a living by being good at it. But yeah going into angry video game nerd rage mode is a bad habit to get into.

Well we define "sports" as something regarding a physical task. Other than moving your thumbs and a few face muscles, there really isn't much physical involvement. Playing Chess has more physical movements. Is Chess a sport?

losing isnt so bad in street fighter 4, but winning but didnt receive any point thats damn annoying...i could just yell away like a mad man. coz i know that they know they are losing and they quit the game by going to playstation menu screen pressing the ps button to keep their point safe... and that will annoy the hell out of everyone. and i think they should make a patch to just sweep any points for backing out. its a game...theres winning and losing just accept it. so my advice is just dont take it too seriously maybe you havin a hard day or maybe you just too tired and you didnt realise that affect your response and emotion.

I have a pretty bad temper :P, video games tend to push me too. I usually just go do some push ups or something and try to relax if I start to feel myself losing it. Once I get back I try to remind myself that it's just a game :P, that's really the only way I know of to deal with it.

I feel as though if you put 100% into a competitive situation(or anything in life) you "NEVER" lose. The other team or individual might have just had the better game plan at that moment... you should only feel bad if you didn't give it you all, but even then you still shouldn't be to hard on yourself. You just need a break bro..:)
