Kind of nervous about taking it. I think I'll put it in its own bag full of pillows. Does anyone have any tips of how I should take it to make sure nothing happens?

You can get the bubble wrap from any UPS store, However when I take mine I always put it in the PS3 Official Carrying bag and then I place it on my carry on bag. They can throw my clothes but NOT MY PS3... I have had no issues and I own the Fat Boy 60 gig. Hope this help!

When you go through security at an airport and your PS3 is in a carry on bag you have to take it out like you would for a laptop. I would know, I didn't know and I holded up the line and got some looks from the security guards :P

I was in your shoes this summer. The best thing you can do is to buy a case for it and carry it with you. If you don't want to buy one, try fitting it in a laptop case or your carry-on bag. But I wouldn't put it with your luggage if I were you.

I carried it on a plane so I have experience :) Get the original box, and use bubble wrap/cloth and wrap the PS3 up when you put it in there.Make sure all wires etc are out first. After that, wrap the box in a bag of some sort to soften any blows it might take, and then stick the entire thing into the bag your taking with you.

If you really wanted to keep it safe you could ship it. It would be expensive but it would be safe.

My father has had multiple valuable things stolen from him while flying. Ever since then, I put all of my vlauable electronics in my carryon. The hassle of carrying it through the plane and putting it above/below is much less than the hassle of being a new ps3 altogether.

I've transported both my ps3 and 360 many times and have always taken them onboard with me. Try to bring it in a small, carry on suitcase, the sort that rolls. Security will probably make you take it out, so it's best if it's not packed in a larger suitcase so you can repack it easily. That said, never bother to tell them you have it in your suitcase. After all, they only said laptops right? I've found that half the time, they'll let you go right on through without asking you to take the console out. As far as wrapping it, I highly recommend a sheet of bubble wrap, the sort you can get at packing stores. The sort with the large bubbles, not the small bubbles. Wrap the console up in this and take it off. Even if security makes you take the ps3 out, they will not make you remove the bubble wrap.

They are signs in most major stating specifically removal of game consoles

Laptops, Full-size Video Game Consoles and Other Large Electronics

Photo of a video game console

Effective August 4, 2007, laptop computers, full-size video game consoles (for example Playstation®, X-box®, or Nintendo®), full-size DVD players, and video cameras that use video cassettes must be removed from their carrying cases and submitted separately for x-ray screening. Laptop computers and video cameras that use cassettes have long been subject to this policy.

What Needs to be Screened Separately

  • Laptops
  • Full-size video game consoles
  • Full-size DVD players
  • Video cameras that use video cassettes
  • CPAP breathing machines

Small and portable electronic items do not need to be removed from their carrying cases.

I own walk through metal detector and when I went to the beach I always took them there and they can give me some surprises. and I also can take it to the park to or find the metal goods, such as coins and so on. It has also helped find the ring that I lost in the garden, this is really great.

Sometimes, I'll just wrap it in a thin blanet for a carry one so you'll have a blanket with you for whatever reason.

This.....point blank the best thing you can do. That way you know where it is at ALL TIMES b/c it's w/ you on the plane and you can get keep an eye on it.

LOL, you don't have to get all elaborate w/ it. If you got simple old bookbag or even an average sized messanger bag, will do just fine. But please, don't settle for the 'bag of pillows'.....that's kinda ghetto.

I remember bringing my PS2 with me on a trip to Japan. I simply put in the suitcase sandwiched between clothes and checked it in. It was fine on the trip and back. It's still fine up to now. Then again, the PS2 is built like a tank. Not sure about my fat PS3 though. I'd probably keep it in my backpack as a carry-on.
