I'm having trouble deciding which of these two titles to get, or if I should get either. On the one hand, I'm a huge "Tales" fan and the thought of having all of these great characters in a game seems A-OK... However, Im also worried about the voices of my favourite characters being destroyed by these false actors (as heard in the videos), and the reviews so far have been less than good. In the other category, Riviera poses a solution to my "questioning Tales" problem by offering a different RPG for the PSP, but the feedback Ive heard about it has been scattered between good and bad depending on your level of "fanboyism".

My question to all of you is: should I go for Tales of the World, Riviera, or a different title all together for my next game? I'm looking for an RPG (maybe I should just wait for Brave Story?)or a game that will be enjoyable without making a fool of the PSP for attempting to have a "consoles graphics". I'm looking for a handheld game, not a console platformer attempt. If anyone has any feedback or suggestions it would be great, disregarding any suggestions that involve FPS's for the PSP (just not interested). THANKS! :D

I'd say go with Tales of the World. It's the first PSP RPG made for the PSP only. It should be good, GameSpot seems to like it, and I trust them. I've already pre-ordered it, so it'd better be. And the PSP can handle console graphics, it's just harder to program for and has less texture memory which makes it look less good.

i think tales of the world cause riveria is just a remake of the gba version and you can create your own character in tales of the owrld

Character creation is the driving force to why I want TOTW.
I heard that they actually cut out some stuff in the PSP version of Riviera, so there is actually less there.

Personally, I'd recommend Tales of the World.... I had the gba version for riviera a long time ago and found it to get boring at times... however, tales games are always good imo. If you haven't played tales of eternia for the psp already, I'd suggest u get that too. It's not in the US so you can import it from Europe making it playable for people who know English :]

Its certainly not the only PSP RPG made for the PSP....unless you meant first tales game? There are plenty others ;)

Tales of the World will probably be like all others Tales games. Same gameplay with average story. EGM gave it a 6.7 and Play which is usually generous gave it a 7.

Riviera on the other hand is pretty unique. It has a very good story and great 2d sprite graphics. Riviera got very good reviews for the game boy advance. I am getting Riviera.

Did anyone else notice that Riviera had no free roaming capability in the dungeons? You just move to the next frame that looks a lot like the previous frame...

Not the kind of game I'm looking to spend $40 on.

Not a good idea. If I had listened to GameSpot, I would never have bought Valhalla Knights. Use GameSpot and others to INFORM and EDUCATE...not make decisions for you. That's like asking the cashier at the grocery store what you should have for dinner.

I once tried Valhalla. It didnt suck to me, the game was just too hard for me and i thought the game would end up to be way too time consuming.

I would guess Tales is a better buy.

IGN just posted a review and gave it a 7.5.
