They ship with 7200 RPM drives now? Mine was a 5400 Seagate Momentus...Buy a hard drive. Go for 250 gigs or over, I would go with seagate 7200 rpm ones, just because that's what the PS3 ships with. Have fun!

where can i find that? and how much do i need to know the inside of my playstation for that?johnpav88For the hard drive itself, if you live in the US I highly recommend Newegg. I use them for pretty much all PC components. THeir very reliable and generally have the best price aswell. As far as installation is concerned, it's pretty much a breeze. You can find online guides, but it really isn't much more then taking out a couple screws, sliding the old one out, and sliding the new one in. You shouldn't have any trouble. The heads of the screws are the biggest pain, as they are extremely easy to strip if your screwdriver isn't the absolute perfect size.
First of all, a terabyte is just an increment (like gigabytes) when measuring memory. In this case, storage memory. Calling it a terabyte and calling it a 1000 gigabytes is pretty much the same thing. I doubt you'll be able to find a terabyte-big internal laptop HDD at retail. Maybe somewhere can provide you with a service in making a custom one, but as far as I know, they don't exist to be sold to the general public. Furthermore, I doubt you'll even need that much memory. It's not going to make your PS3 run any better. It's not going to improve anything in your PS3 besides the fact that you can put more videos/music/game-saves/game utility data in it. It's simply memory - not a magical PS3-improver. If you think you need a lot of memory to store your stuff, then just get a 500GB 2.5" Laptop HDD and swap.hazelnutmanBiggest ive seen at newegg or tiger for the pa3/laptop size is 500.
that sounds like just what i need! i was thinking a terabyte was a little crazy. where can i get one and how well do i need to know the inside of my playstation to install that?johnpav88http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/how_to_upgrade_your_playstation_3_hard_drive.cfm Read the article in the above link and follow the 4-page instructions carefully.
A Terabyte is 1024 Gigabytes.[QUOTE="PimpiNbananas"]

Tarabyte is 1024 Gigabytes. The 24 at the end are used up for the OS. If you put a terabyte of RAM in your computer, then you're stupid. Lol.

lol, terabyte of ram would be SICK. but last I heard windows only supports 4 gigs of RAM. so you'd be wasting 1020 gigs of RAM...and A LOT of money. could you imagine the cost of each RAM to get to there...wow.

WTF, That's TWICE now GS has left my message blank after I hit the post button...
I've never heard of Terabyte. I know Gigabyte nearly killed Bob but Terabyte must be what Megabyte was going to become at the end, if the series didn't get canceled.

Epic *@&$ing win ReBoot was an amazing show
ON TOPIC: Don't go over 500gb since after that point most manufacturers just add more discs to the drive instead of having them be a higher density.
More discs = More moving parts and more moving parts = higher failure rate ;)
All I've heard was the PS3 has a limit of 500Gigs and 7200RPM.
I haven't heard of Terrabyte Laptop hard drive. A piece of advice, if you don't know anything about this, chances are a store guy either: knows about as much as you do, or they'll BS or con you into buying something you don't actually need. Or in case of something like this, probably wouldn't work even if it did exist. All operating systems have limits on how much hard drive space they can read. More so with a console, being much more limited than a PC would.
But you are better off learning about this stuff. It'll save you a lot of trouble and the ability to sniff out the BS.

sound familiar, is it that show back in the late 90's where it shows Bad CGI of a blue guy who has powers and a green guy with that good lookin chick? It was the same video quality as Transformers Beast Wars.

Yeah, and they had a kid with them. I never understood why anybody watched it. It was just awful. A channel here in Canada aired it quite often.
I'm pretty sure it was called Reboot.

There is a guide here on GS on how to install them, it sint too ifficult, just be careful with the screws

I read somewhere that is you go with a higher RPM HDD is can increase the chance of your PS3 overheating? Is this true and how likely is it? Does the RPM make a difference in performance?

Its that one where Enzo and Andrala fight in a game where numerous ppl were being called upon Like a Angel commando and crap getting killed by this Big Red Badass Devil thing.

crusadeonacid
Yeah, it spins faster. Spinning faster than it's limit will cause problems. Not worth the risk.

It shouldn't make a difference if you take care of your PS3, i know a few people who put in 7200RPM hard drives and they work fine. They don't get to hot or to loud and it shouldn't be a problem if you keep your PS3 in good condition.
No way would I recommend a terabyte HDD. To costly, and honestly, it's pointless. I haven't even come close to filling my 160 GB HDD yet, with 37 games installed. I'd say a 500 GB HDD would be enough to hold just about anyone over. raven_squadNot me, I have a 500gig Hdd for about 11months now...and I only have 176gigs left, another year...I'll be looking at a mere 70-76gigs!!!! Gotdamnit I need a terabyte, but its too late for that...im not spending anymore money on hdds, nor do they even have them in 2.5 sata

7200RPM is the limit. I just wasn't sure if there was anything made higher than that yet, hence my comment.
