I will spare everyone and only do 5, but I've been gaming since the mid-80s, and video games have always been a part of my life. I can almost tell you the story of my life and what Nintendo game (mostly Nintendo at least) I was playing during the major events in my life.
1. Legend of Zelda II : Link's Adventure - I got to the last castle so many times in this game, but it was so difficult to navigate through (I was 6 or 7 when this came out) that I was never able to beat it, until the Zelda collection came packaged with my gamecube, and I finally played through it, for the 20th time probably, and beat it. So essentially, it took me about 14 or 15 years to complete it. Pretty sad actually... still love it even though it's disliked by most.
2. Super Mario Bros 2 - Once again, probably one of the most disliked of the series, but one of my favorites. I was timing myself to see how fast I could beat this one, back when the only people that cared were my older brother and my close neighborhood friends. There weren't online stats or anything like that, just word of mouth that probably didn't make it past my block.
3. Super Mario 64 - Yes, I loved this game as did most gamers of the 64 era, but I can't begin to describe the feeling I got when I saw Mario's face, in all it's 3-dimensional glory, for the first time. I, still to this day, have never felt that same level of excitement for any other game that I've played. Even after I got all 120 stars, that game kept me entertained for months and months afterwards.
4. Pokemon Red/Blue - I bought both me and my little brother these games to try and spark a stronger bond between the two of us, and little did I know, it was going to work. Not only did this game give us something to do together, this game was so good, that we found ourselves talking about it all the time. Not that we had a bad relationship, but I think this game had a hand at making it as good as it is now.
5. Final Fantasy 3/6 - I remember getting this game for my birthday the year it came out, and me, my older brother, and a couple friends stayed up all night to try and get as far in the game as possible. We used cross country driving techniques to get through the night, a couple of us would sleep until a big part came up and we'd be awakened to see the story progression and then the two playing would sleep while the other two took over. Absolutely loved the game. It's my love for this game that keeps giving the FF Series a chance, even though I haven't liked what they've done to the series since 10. Hell, FF 13 is a big reason I bought a PS3 over the 360 even though I couldn't bring myself to even complete 10 or 12. I think 13 will be it's last chance though.
Sorry for the long post, but you asked.:P
Also meant to say that this is an excellent topic. Some people are taking it as favorite games, but I think it's a lot more than that. A couple of these games wouldn't make it on my top 10 games of all time, but they made it on this list. Just thought I would add that.
