The $100 price cut wont help much

wow, so everyone was whining about a price drop, and now a $100.00 isnt enough. im sure sony would be more than willing to sell them for $399 if you paid for the additional $100 loss on each console

The reason why the 20GB didn't sell was because it didn't offer as much as the 60GB, 20GB isn't near enough in the long run and it didn't have wireless internet access. Those limitations right there made the 20GB far from worth the price.

I know many people will pay $500 for the 60GB.

$300 is the sweet spot, and the first to $200 can rule the world. $500 better than $600?....not really, if anything this could be looked on as panic (it actually is panic, given the sales).

It should be interesting to see what the sales are like. I don't expect much of a bump at all. Maybe they'll have another drop in November.

would probably complain it does not come with a free game or another controller or hdmi cable or any other crap like that, people just understand its a business and when they understand what goes into making something than they will understand the price reasoning. sure xbox was 399 but its hit the verge of 30% failure rate, for 599 we got more plus a less than 1% failure and now they are even cutting the price after only 7 months thats crazy. when people stop complaining than the worldwill end so get used to it.

I wonder how much we'll be paying next gen, if ps2 was launched at $300 and the ps3 at $600, we'll pay either $900 or $1200 for ps4!

Personally I would have to agree and say the $100 price drop would make a difference.

I have yet to buy a next gen console - but have been debating about it for a while.

500 dollar threshold is a significant mental block for purchasing a video game console. Heck walmart has the wii bundle with extra controller/nun chuck and 3 games for cheaper than the ps3. Not starting a system war buts its just what can you get for your money.

Its a no brainer its gonna come down some day. If this circuit city sale is true (may be they have been loosng money if you follow the stock/financial moves.) Sale on pS3 should generate signifcant press and volumne in the stores and webiste - a hope on repeat shoppers and people picking up games/accessories at the same time. Makes good business sense as they may hop to recoop loss on ps3 with additional sales volume.

From my perspective I think the PS3 has some promise as the xbox360 headlines of its problems continues and they alread have a supped up version of the system (points to sustainability issues of original) .

One day i'll own one. Maybe its when I finally move out of my mom's house in a year or two and get a giant flat screen, dig my 6.1 speaker system that has been collecting dust since I came home from college and can finally enjoy it again.

Considering dvd was out for alittle while before the ps2 came out, i think blu-ray is going to be much harder to fill up since it was only out for less than a year when the ps3 came out. Though once it can be, people will start using good compression tools. Mention this because maybe the ps4 wouldn't be as expensive?

Still, i think the 100$ price point will make a difference. Everybody that talks about the ps3, never mentions the 20gig. Wonder why, since i got one and it works perfectly. Got wifi and camera memory cards but still didn't care if the ps3 has the slots or not. Now people will really think the ps3 is 500$.

Yes it will. The 20gig console wasn't a good value when compared to the 60gig console. You're forgeting the most important thing of all.....unlike months past, the PS3 will actually have a lot of good games rolling in later this year. When you couple a price drop, lots of new games, a few updates to the PSN and the launch of Home, Sony is going to sell more hardware later this year, and have a better software attachement rate. Just watch. Sony isn't stupid, and they'll show it later on...trust me.

Mind you, this is all coming from a guy who doesn't even own a PS3 yet. I do plan on getting one later this year because I believe Sony will pick up the slack very soon, and when they do, the PS3 will be a very good console.

So the guy who posted this bulletin obviously owns a x-box and/or probably already sh*tted away $600 on his 60GB ps3 and is pissed that the price cut is here.

I'm not really, the PS3 could be $29.99 and you would get a free game of your choosing and we would still see the same people here. The reason is because they get some sort of pyschological thrill over bashing something, which means there is something more wrong on a deeper level in their lives.

no, even $399 is expensive. and considering that, sony will probably NEVER make a profit off the ahrdware because they will have to keep cutting the price so often.
