What is the consensus in regard to Monster Hunter games?

Gamespot seems to hate them, the entire country of Japan seems to love them.

I'm on the fence on whether or not I should buy a PSP to play them and wanted some information from less biased people...

I have some store credit and could get a PSP and the game for around $100. Thanks.

I don't know. There was just something I didn't like about them. I tried really hard to like it, but I couldn't.

The Monster Hunter games are great because you can play them for over 300 hours EASILY if you have friends with them, too.

No, I just can't get into them. I gave both the first and the second an honest try.

I've bought and played every one of them except the new Unite and I have to say that I dislike the series. Truthfully, its the whole camera thing that kills me, especially on the PSP games. Everything else about the games are alright, it just doesn't change enough to really continue with the praise.

A frustrating camera does not make a game "hardcore" or "difficult", it just frustrates.

I have MH: Freedom and its an ok game - a bit different from most games, and it can be frustrating but it isn't too bad. I have played for a while but it is one of the few JRPG's I cannot really get into.
