The BIG UPDATE.... Is it everything that you hoped for?

Everyone thinks this update is going to be awesome, but it may not be what you expect.

Sure upscaling is great, but remember these games aren't made in HD. There may be a difference but not what you expect.

I can see it now: my games still look like crap!!!!!!!!!!

(although I don't find them that distracting)

Yeah as soon as I posted, I looked and there it was,          system update.

I'm installing right now. 

Wow, you ttoaly right. I just  upscaled DVD to Full screen, my PS2 games look LIKE SHIATE It was worse then before! WAY WORSE.Haseokicksass

YOU PEOPLE ARE FUNNY. FIRST YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT NO SCALING. THEN WHEN THE SYSTEM IS CAPABLE OF UP SCALING YOU WINE ABOUT THAT. MAYBE IF YOU PLAYED MORE PS3 GAMES AND NOT LIVE IN THE PAST YOU WILL BE SATISFIED. SONY IS ON TARGET WITH THEIR SYSTEM AND IT ONLY GETS EVEN BETTER AS TIME GOES ON.

How big of an improvement is it compared to before the update, would you say? installing it now. 

It looks so much better, better than SD I think.

Now I need to know if which one is better in upscaling DVDs, PS3 or my oppo.

Yeah testing it out now with GTA SA, it's way smoother than before. Great update

Yeah testing it out now with GTA SA, it's way smoother than before. Great update

remember the GT comparison PS2, PS3 and PS3 update 1.5? Now think PS2 and make it 1080p with better textures, lighting, colours and detail. That's what the update makes your PS2 games look like. DVD's look HD now lol. No jk but there is a bit more detail in HD than there is 480, it looks cleaner and sharper

After updating to firmware 1.80, I agree with the TC that most people are getting their hopes up way too much.

I will admit that most of my PS2 games look a little better with the HD upscaling. GTA: SA looks surprisingly better in my opinion. What people need to understand is that PS2 and PS1 games were not created with HD resolutions in mind. Hence the reason that many of them don't look too hot on an HDTV. 

Textures and colors look a little better with this firmware update, but again, nothing that's going to make your jaw drop. DVD upconversion is a nice touch as it adds value to the PS3, but it's a feature I don't plan on using much because I have an excellent Denon DVD player that upconverts DVD's via HDMI already.

The feature in this firmware update that I think is important is Remote Play. It's nice to know that I can access my music, movies, and pictures from my PSP from anywhere in the world now. I am very interested in seeing how this will work.

Don't for get to turn on "FULL" HDMI under Display settings and look under BD settings to enable 24fps.
