3rd person, and might be survival horror.JoKeR_421
Third-person SHOOTER...
:)
... I highly doubt it will dip into proper Survival Horror. Pretty much figure on "Uncharted" quality, TPS...
3rd person with maybe a bit of survival horror as well. Looks promising but I need to see gameplay before I can judge on how it's gonna be.

You havve no idea how much I want it to be a gameplay focused survival horror... This would result in two positive results for me
-I'd finally experience a survival horror again after so long.
-My faith would be restored in Naughty Dog's game making skills.

Agreed, but with the gaming market being what it is, I highly doubt this game will be anything different than current RE games. "Survival Horror Doesn't Sell As Well As Action Horror", is the industry focus. So I doubt with RE and Silent Hill's most recent games dropping the tennants of Survival Horror over the last few years, that sales and such are going to allow for the game to be proper Survival Horror.
It's gonna be like RE5 meets Uncharted. Not that that's a bad thing for most people out there. I hear your sigh of hope, and I echo it whole-heartedly, but I just don't think it's gonna shake out that way.

Naughty Dog have stated:
Naughty Dog have stated:
- It's going to be 3rd person similar to Uncharted with less of the death defying jumps etc. ie. Some climbing, jumping etc but not to the same extent.
- It's story driven action survival horror (big focus on story and survival).
- Ammo is limited so there's much less shooting.
- There's more mele combat (both fists and using various physical objects).
- Health is persistent (no hiding for a minute to restore health) - you have to find health packs.
- They have put a lot of effort into AI (for Ellie, the other survivors, and the infected).
- It shares the same engine as the Uncharted series (both teams improving the same engine).
- There is an improved lighting engine, facial expression system and environmental sound.
- The infected don't play a large role in the game - you'll find more survivors (helpful and harmful).

That's the only thing that's REALLY bothering me about this... The other info sounds excellent, but the focus on story is what made their latest IP unenjoyable IMO.

"Action Survival Horror" - What the Hell is THAT, anyway? It's one or the other, but I highly doubt it's both. CAPCOM calls RE4 and RE5 "Survival Horror", but we all know the difference.

You're wrong bro. Uncharted is a TPS, and TLOU is a third person game but the emphasis will not be on shooting but surviving. ND have said it many times that ammo is going to be scarce with more melee opportunities.

We're done here.
We're done here.MonkeySpotlol I see you had this argument one too many times :P Anyway after reading what you have to say in thread I do agree with you to an extent, but just to let you know Capcom are aware that RE is more action packed now, they even said they're after COD level sales with RE. But ND will not tread on the same gameplay as Uncharted which very much is emphasis on shooting. Sure TLOU will be sort of a shooter but nowhere near the kind Uncharted is, from what I have read and unless you have some secret source everything is pointing to TLOU definitely being a story driven survival game.
It'll be a third person shooter like Uncharted. It looks basically the same... I'm sure the mushroom enemies won't come in until late in the game. For the majority of the game you'll be fighting army personnel and thugs.Minishdrivebymushroomhead will be in the early part.....and through the game........ premieum and royalty mushroom will come later
I have no idea why gamers are saying it will be like Uncharted. I hope you guys are aware that the people who worked on Uncharted 2 wanted to move on to something different, they opted out of doing Uncharted 3 leaving it to another team because they were tired of the IP after working on UC & UC2. Maybe no tired but wanted to do something with a different flavour. Now it wouldn't make much sense if TLOU is just Uncharted but with different characters. This game is not a shooter, it's not Uncharted. Honestly Im quite surprised how little gamers think of ND if they believe the team will just repeat themselves again. Crash Bandicoot, Jak n Daxter and Uncharted are vastly different experiences. And if ND says TLOU is a survival game well then Im 100% going to believe them.Probably something like Uncharted, but you have to survive the 'apocalypse'.

this looks like a generic zombie shooter and since it is made by Naughty Dog, I'm betting that it will have very limited replay value and be super linear cinematic storytelling with over the top set pieces. not interested.

I guess you are not aware that ND made 3 open world games last gen. And TLOU doesn't have zombies, and the rest.... have you played the game? Im thinking not.

that is last gen. this is this gen. this gen is focused on casualizing and stupidizing and watering down games. Each Uncharted game takes like 30 hours to platinum, and then that is it for single player. So, very minimal replay value if not for multi.
but the thing about the last of us is that the main enemies are zombies. new and exciting. tons of set pieces. oh and not to mention one of the hacks who worked on Enslaved is working on this game, which really means I am the opposite of interested.

Ook..... I wouldn't say Uncharted is a watered down experience but if you don't like it then it's understandable but I don't feel you should judge TLOU based on Uncharted. ND are not a one trick pony and will deliver an experience which will be vastly different to Uncharted just like how J&D is different.
BTW the infected people are not really zombies -_- They're mushroom people lol. And regarding Enslaved it is a terrible game and I would have been worried as well that some guy from NT is working on a ND game but he's just one of the many artists on TLOU. He will not influence the direction of the game in anyway because his not a lead artist. We just gotta wait until more footage is shown which should be at E3, Im already convinced and maybe ND will show things that could possibly convince you.

Look, I'm all for your optimism. Please don't get me wrong. Being that it's a Naughty Dog game, I'm sure it's worth looking into. But the concept of true, no-bones Survival Horror is completely dead. Gone, never to return to us as we loved it around 1996-2000. What ND is puting on the table here will most-certainly be about survival - "Uncharted" is all about survival... ALL adventure games are about surviving. I'm not questioning that. But the game which is coming will be Action. It will be third-person. Like "Enslaved" (which I thought was a lot of fun), you will have an AI assistant (the girl) which you will have light escort mission duties for, but she will mostly be a helper and plot generator, just like "Enslaved". But if you think this is going anywhere closer to old RE or SH games, you are patently mad as a hatter and I'll hand you a tea cup right now...
Unlike others in this thread, I have faith that what ND will deliver will be a solid, popular game. But after every article I have read, every magazine feature (Game Informer just did a HUGE article a few months ago) I have looked over, this game is going to be very "Uncharted" in it's composition, whether the talking heads at ND say it in so many words or not.
Yes, this is a new IP.
Yes, it will be about surviving.
But also yes, there will be really strong "Uncharted" & "Enslaved" overtones to it.
:)

Nah... The guy from ninja theory that went to naughty dog is Mark Richard Davies... And he was the lead designer on enslaved, not an artist. Dunno what he is doing on the last of us, but probably not art. Please Log In to post.
