I finally unlocked my first theme. Man, it looks pretty awesome. Luckily its of my favorite character, too. Sahz FTW!TheEldestGod
Noice, gratz!
I'm finally strong enough to farm Adamantortoises, namely, Mark Mission 63, as that one earns me a Gold Nugget everytime (60,000 Gil). Finally got him to drop a Trapezohedron, gonna turn it into 3 later with the Kain's Lance dismantling trick.

How much damage can you do? I just got to GP and got pwned by the BIG turtleWell, the legs have a few hundred thousand HP, and high defenses, so I go Relentless Assault, spam Fire with Lightning for a quick Stagger, then use two Army of One's while Fang is tearing it up for 50kish per shot. Then I move onto the next leg, same deal, and knock the big beastie down. Then I spam Fire again (and with luck, activate Lightning's synthesized ability of Instant Stagger), two more Army of One's, then switch to Agression and spam Ruin, cause it's fast and hits for 35k each. Beastie gets up, summon Odin (insta-knockdown) then repeat. Odin can one-shot it, apparently, though it has only happened to me once. You also need 3 Gaian Rings, Imperial Armlets, and the like to blocks much of the incoming damage as possible, Fang's STR should be in the high 2000's, same with Hope's MAG, and Lightning should have both around 2000. It's gonna be awhile before you take one down.

Holy hell. Reading this I've just realized I'm about to step into a world of hurt. I just killed you-know-who in the Ark and am still in chapter X. The most HP any of my characters have is Snow with 2800+. Man, when they say this game opens up in chapter XI they mean it, huh?Lol, yes. This is post-story play, I'm 63 hours in, with at least 20 more to go before plat trophy. And the Adamantortoise I was speaking of is actually one of the easier of the giant, four-legged Oretoises. Then there's Mission Mark 64, Vercingetorix...it looks painful. It apparently has a move that blocks pretty much all damage for a period of time, but removes all of your status enhancements, removes all his status ailments, buffs him, heals him, and resets his chain gauge...it's gonna be epic.
I am about 10 Hours into the game. Snow just picked up Hope... Chapter 6 or 7 I think. Story hasn't hooked me up "that" much. Is there any chance it will get better? Will the game get signicantly better?Shoooryuken
No, it will only get worse... /sarcasm off
Obviously it will get better! Weather or not you'll be hooked, nobody can tell since it's subjective... Keep playing...

Yeah, I enjoyed the game the entire way through, and am still enjoying it in post-story play. It's all subjective.
Well it's like 10 Hours that I am playing. Other games would have been finished by now. And ofc it's subjective, but I can still ask for opinions. If the general opinion is everything will be rainbow and pancake after chapter 10, I will look forward to 10. It would just be disappointing if it goes on like this. It's so unenjoyable being forced to play certain characters you do not want to play and the game really gives you NO freedom at all. I'd rather know it now instead of hoping and hoping..Shoooryuken
Aww, I wish you had said "sugar and rainbows." Sazh quote = awesome.
And yes you can still ask for opinions, but it helps when you're specific like you were in this post, clarifying that you don't enjoy playing through the characters in a scenario fashion. Yes, it opens up and you can pick and choose your party. I actually think they did a great job of making all the characters fun to play, though. None of them are weak, they're each powerful and versatile in their primary roles. But yes, the game opens right up in Chapter 11.

My general opinion on the game: masterpiece.
Now, I see that you have some specific questions you didn't ask before. Yes, you will be able to choose your team and your leader in the near future. This game is not so much about freedom (even though there are many possible paths you can take with relatively different consequences), besides this game wouldn't be as good if you had so much freedom in my opinion. Turn your map off if you want more exploration, that's what I did. There are some places with a lot of people you can listen to.
How do I get a chocobo? Urgh >_> I'm in the chocobo place, just got a chocobo plume, but how do I actually ride a chocobo? I just can't seem to do anything with it, it's driving me mad. One chocobo shows up on the map but I can't ride it or anything, what am I missing? x_X
Just got to Gran Pulse.... O... M.... G...... :P That place is huge. I love how there're beasts just roaming around everywhere that you can just go up an fight until your thumbs break off. I beat everything I came into contact with (I didn't go NEAR any turtles!) but when I took on the King Behemoth he showed me who's boss as soon as he got to his second form. Lucky these things out here drop so much CP I'll probably be whiping the floor with him in no time. Anyway, to anyone who's tired of running through tubes... its coming! You'll have more room to roam free than you'll know what to do with. I see now why they made the rest of the game so linear, cause when they go big they go BIG! It'd have taken forever to get through this game if you had this much ground to cover the entire time, y'know? Anyway, this is a great reward. I'm going back to enjoy it some more now. ;)TheEldestGod
I also think they went linear for the story. After all they are trying to break free of a governent society, escape from their own people, fight an external conflict/ foe that threatens their lives. I think the reason the story and game is like this is because it's about escaping a linear life, going through the mudane and harsh reality that they face, insitution to insitution. I think it's about crossing over the bridges of civilization, before travel under them, to discover the groundwork of their humanity and existence.

Ooooo... Nice perspective. That would make a lot of since and is great symbolism. It did remind me a lot of leaving Midgar in FFVII which was basically the same principal. Needless to say, SE hasn't lost their touch. They may need to work on their strategy just a bit, but the magic is most definitely still there.[QUOTE="GalufUndies"][QUOTE="TheEldestGod"]Just got to Gran Pulse.... O... M.... Those are impossible to beat without using Sentinels. Use provoke on them and then steel guard right after. Their enormously strong attack should merely scratch Snow and Snow only. You don't really have to grind too much in this game unless you avoid enemies too much; even then, you can fall back on strategy more than statistics.
Hey yawl. This is the first part of my guide to a complete Enemy Intel section. This list contains enemy intel entries that are only available for a limited amount of time. If an entry is located below a certain chapter, it means that after that chapter, if you have not completed the entry, it can never be obtained and/or completed.
I recommend using this guide like so: 1. After every battle featuring a new enemy, check your datalogue to see what that enemy is called, and what portion of its entry you have gathered. 2. Check if that intel entry is listed below. 3. If it is, save before the next group of enemies that it is in, and battle and respawn until you have completed the entry. 4. Right before the end of each chapter, consult the list below and make sure that you have completed each entry listed. Many of these entries will be automatically completed. For example, the Manasvin Warmech's entry will automatically be completed, as will Anima's and many other bosses'.
I'm hoping to add more detail to this list later on, once I've completed the second half. Specifically, I want to elaborate more on the very final locations of each enemy, and narrow those locations down to specific areas on the map.
As you read through these entries, you will notice a few notes scattered throughout. Since I do not have immediate access to the game, I cannot test these out at the moment. Therefore, if you know the answer to whatever problem I'm dealing with, I would be grateful if you would notify me.
Enjoy!

when i hit gran pulse last night the king behemoths murdered me! did anyone here farm in pulse for a while or crack on with the game for a bit until strong enough to roam free without fear of getting killed?
Wow, excellent work, Ultimasamune! Your guide is sure to tickle the fancies of many completionists. Oh jeez, I hope I didn't miss any enemies so far :Phazelnutman
I think the only enemies you can miss (at least till chapter 10 where I'm at) are those Wyverns in the part where you can change the weather in order to avoid them. At least I fought one of them, just to see if I can handle them. Although I don't know if they appear later in the game.
Glad to be of service :P
There are plenty more guides I'd like to make after this. Would anyone be interested in a list of products from dismantled weapons and accessories? This way people can know which items they need to dismantle to get maximum amounts of each component. Or it could be used by a player seeking one particular component.
It actually prevents you from being able to stagger an enemy. The stagger lock is on a weapon with very high attack stats. You're sacrificing the ability to stagger for an extremely high powered weapon. All of the third tier weapons seem to have an ability that is more of a punishment for power than it is an enhancement. The only ones without such abilities are the original weapons for each character. You'll find that their original weapons also have a perfect balance between str/mag. So for most characters you'll probably be better off just upgrading their main weapons to third tier (by main weapons I mean the first ones they get, i.e. Lightning's Blazefire weapon).I'm trying to figure this out, but I can't seem to find it via google/manuel/guide either. What in the world does the stagger lock effect on a weapon do?
Alan1187
Yeah, those guys on Gran Pulse are insane! I actually tried to farm the smaller wildcat looking fellas, but it was time consuming and not so easy. So I decided to go on with the story. Luckily, if you just head to the map marker you'll eventually be in a cave that's leading you on to the village. As soon as you get in the cave there is a save point. From the save point you can head down and there are three different groups of these robot things that are very easy to get a preemptive strike on. They die relatively quick and hardly damage you at all. You can go all the way until you reach the third group and then come back to the save point and they all respawn instantly. Each run down the cave nets you a little over 7000CP. It only takes a minute at the most per run. Spending a little over an hour in that spot I was able to raise all my characters to level four in their primary roles. Now, those pups on Gran Pulse ain't so tough. Hope this helps!when i hit gran pulse last night the king behemoths murdered me! did anyone here farm in pulse for a while or crack on with the game for a bit until strong enough to roam free without fear of getting killed?

Wow. Yes actually that would be really helpful. I don't wanna end up destroying my equipment, just to find out I got a scrubby component:P. Thanks for these guides man:D
To further explain what stagger lock and all those other weapon abilities can do to help/hurt your reputation on the battle field I found this nifty little guide for you guys:
Special Skill Explanations
To further explain what stagger lock and all those other weapon abilities can do to help/hurt your reputation on the battle field I found this nifty little guide for you guys:
Special Skill Explanations
- Attack ATB Charge - Recharge ATB Gauge for a small amount upon attack, slightly larger amount with ATB Charge II
- Improved Raise - Increases the amount of HP given for using Raise on an fallen ally, slightly larger amount with Improved Raise II
- Leadenstrike/Ironstrike - Stronger weapon STR/MAG at the cost of sacrificing attack speed
- Stagger Lock - Prevents weapon user from staggering an enemy, does not affect any other characters in party from achieving a stagger
- Quick Stagger - Causes weapon user to stagger while just within reach of stagger (Both the enemy and stagger bar will be flashing) usually the last 15% of the gauge or so, also does not affect other party members
- Augment Maintenance - Increases the time that status buffs last, effect increases with Augment Maintenance II
- Paper/Silk Tiger - Severely cuts HP for STR/MAG boosts on weapon
- Chain Bonus Boost - Increases the rate at which the Stagger gauge increases, more so with Chain Bonus Boost II
- Stagger Maintenance - Increases the time enemies stay staggered, more so with Stagger Maintenance II
- Critical Shield - Bestow's several buffs when HP reaches critical limits, honestly can't remember all the buffs since I don't use this weapon...sorry
- Siphon Boost - Boost the effects of the Siphon abilities in the Ravager Paradigm, even more so with Siphon Boost II
- Defense Maintenance - Increases the time defensive buffs stay on party members, even more so with Defense maintenance II
- Stifled/Fettered Magic - Nerfs your magic and the effect should be obvious, not recommended for magic users such as Vanille or Hope. Its fine when using Fang
- Improved Guard - Improves the Sentinel's ability to guard against physical attacks, even more with Improved Guard II
- Critical Power Surge - This is gonna be edited as soon as I find out what it does, its hard to get snow to critical HP though >_>
- Enfeeblement/Hindrance - Nerfs your attack and the effect should be obvious. Not recommended unless you character is a magic user
- Improved Ward - Improves the Sentinel's ability to guard against magic attacks, even more with Improved Ward II
- Stagger TP Charge - Recharges TP gauge every time you stagger an enemy
- Improved Debilitation - Improves the chances of any Saboteur abilities to land.
- Improved Counter - Strengthens the Sentinels Counter ability
- Improved Cure - Strengthens the Cure ability of the caster
- Ally Ko Power Surge - See Critical Power Surge...AKA no idea as of yet
- Improved Debuffing - Improves the chances of any Saboteur abilities to land. Not entirely sure why there are two abilities that do the same thing, maybe there is a slight difference. I'll look into it
