Well, guys, I finished!!! That was one of the best endings ever! The story throughout didn't do much for me at times, but the ending surely made up for it! As a father of two young sons a certain part of the ending actually had me teary eyed! Seriously! I never expected it would've ended so beautifully! Cheers, Squeenix! Oh, and the final boss was a total joke. I 5-starred it in one try in less than 30 secs. Sab/sab/syn, com/rav/rav, com/rav/com with Fang, Vanille, and Sahz = instant 5-star glory. ;)TheEldestGod

THANK YOU!!!! i didnt get any strs and it only took me about 2 minutes :-s

did you not enjoy enjoy ff10 then?

Wow, seriously? That sucks. I think you should be plenty powerful enough by now to try again with my method. I'm serious, dude, I almost crapped my pants to see him go down so easy. It was like the battle started, I changed paradigms, he staggered, I changed again, *bing* "You've earned a trophy!"..... WTF?? :P Anyway, I liked X a lot, but I definitely liked the PSX FFs better.

Woo! Just got my Platinum trophy for the game! Clocked in at around 117 hours, but I could have shaved off at least 20-30 hours of that just dicking around grinding in the first 10 chapters, lol. Treasure Hunter trophy is definitely the hardest one to get, and I thought I had missed it, but you gotta go back to Vanille's Robot thing in Oerba to get the actual trophy rewarded to you. Loved the game! Not sure where it fits in my FF rankings, but it's probably in the top 3. I wanna star at least one of everyone's ultimate weapon before I quit for good though (at least, until I replay it).

I can't get my trophy card to ever update these days. :/ It just sits there saying "We're generating your trophy card." but nothing ever happens.

Congrats dude. The treasure hunter trophy does seem most irritating to get. But I guess it helps level up if you aren't full in your roles yet. I'm still doing hunts, so I'm not quite ready to farm for that trophy yet. I too wanna wait to replay the main game till after I plat, but that may prove too hard(or long). I think I'd probably have a lot more understanding of events second time around.

Thanks. And yeah, definitely would be cool if it had a new game plus feature to use my stats and such. ;/ Oh well. I'm gonna play through the game later just for the story after some time has passed.

As far as treasure hunter trophy goes (if you try for it), I recommend just getting a list off the internet of all the items you need and make a checklist. You'll have to farm quite a bit of gil to get everything upgraded - the most time consuming part of getting the platinum, by far.

[QUOTE="HarDcore_RpG"]

That was a bit harsh. Simply put, maxing out your current crystarium at any given point in the game before you beat the final boss does not mean you gained a level in that role. For you to level up in that role you must unlock a Role Level crystal. Each role maxes out at five and they appear after specific boss battles. Like EldestGod said, your characters dont level up, your roles do.

TheEldestGod

Well I unlock everything for certain roles such as lighting commader role thing. Once I unlock everything thats it? Im only on chapter 2 btw

Yeah, that's it, but you don't have access to the whole crystarium yet. You actually won't get the chance to fully max it out until after you beat the game.

That explains so much! thanks

Hell yes! I already invested so much time in farming Wladaslaus that I'm not as far away from maximizing my characters as I thought. (still a heck of a long way though.... :( ). I never touched the missions, so those should be a lot of fun. Never rode a chocobo, so there's that... I already have tons of cash, six 2nd tier weapons ready to be maxed out, and the desire to do it! I'm gonna take a lot of breaks in between to play other games, but I'm just too close not to plat this game!

Haha sounds good man, I got all 2nd tier weapons for all of my chars and maxed them already. And for the sake of it, go finish that chocobo quest and get the growth egg!, it'll save you a lot of time grinding exp to max out all the roles later on. I could down turtles now without using Death Skill , even the King Turtle with a help from summon. And all the A rank missions are really hard, even with max out stats, I need to find a good strategy for them >.>.

Thanks all. :)

Just a reminder about the Treasure Hunter trophy for those trying to get the platinum, you don't have to hold onto the accessory/weapon (components are not counted) forever. You just have to have had it at some point. Also, remember you have to go back to Vanille's robot in Oerba after getting everything (the longest part is just upgrading every single weapon to tier 2), and if he says "You are a treasure hunter!" (or something similar), you should be awarded the trophy then. I'm not entirely sure why they made you go to the robot to complete it, but ya know, lol. In fact, no where in game says that you need to go back there as far as I've seen. I had to look it up on the net to know.

The order in which I did things for the platinum is: complete game, get 5 stars on final boss, complete all missions (5 star them at the same time), grind gil (and CP), maxed characters completely, killed Long Gui (one of the trophies is for this), and then treasure hunter.

If anyone has any probs 5starring some of the missions, let me know. Mission 54 (the giant cactuar) pretty much requires the "Random: Instant Chain" ability to get 5 stars imo (unless you are VERY lucky), and Mission 64 is pretty challenging (took me quite a few attempts - some to get the hang of the fight, some for re-working my strategy with different people, and some for just random bad luck, lol).

So if anyone needs any help, toss me a PM, and I'll see what I can do!

EDIT: Oh and btw, if you are having issues 5-starring some of the missions, just know that you can use pre-empt & buff shrouds for 90% of the hunts. There's only a few that the pre-empt one won't work on. Makes some of the harder ones a little easier - especially if you are trying to 5star early missions and you have your crystarium maxed out (the target time for battles is based on your stats). You can also unequip ultimate weapons (and powerful accessories) to increase your target time.

1. Personally, I wouldn't upgrade them much until Chapter 11. Maybe a few levels here and there as you get better components, but the most efficient ways come later imo.

2. Don't buy weapons from shops. You should find every weapon in the game in a treasure chest (besides 1 for each character late in the game) or from a boss.

3. No, not really. I mean, some characters function better in certain roles (ie: Snow is a better SEN and COM than RAV), but eventually you'll get enough CP to do all their roles - at least the main ones.

4. Personally, I'd keep everything except items that have the description of "Can be sold for a premium" or something. ie: Credit Chips, Incentive Chips, any "dolls" or figurines you can sell.

Let me try to answer: 1. The general consensus is to wait until at least chapter 11, if not until the very end, end-game sort of time. This is because you won't find every weapon until the very end, and you might want to choose specifically which weapon you'd prefer to upgrade. Having said that however, if you want to plat the game, you're gonna have to upgrade every weapon, for every character, until at least the second level/form. I didn't know this, so I upgraded 1 weapon from each character as I went on through the chapters, and it's not that big a deal really. Upgrading will help you get by enemies and bosses just as good as the crystarium levels do. Plus since I already had been upgrading, it makes my task of obtaining plat a little bit easier now. 2.All weapons bar 6 can be found in treasure chests. So no, you don't have too. However weapons usually show up in shops around the time you should find them in chest, so if you've traveled a long way and haven't found one that's already in a shop, chances are you missed it. Check online to be sure. The 6 weapons I'm talking about that you have to buy, are way way later in the game, again end-game time. 3. Short answer - No. 4. I would strongly advise against selling anything except components that have 'would sell for a premium' listed in the info section. I have no idea if any of the accessories cannot be obtained either through shops or upgrading. I do not believe so, but I'm not sure. Again though this is for plat purposes. Keeping accessories will make upgrading easier. Plus it's not like you really need Gil until the end, so just keep whatever you get. I made the mistake of selling all my components probably less than 30 minutes before the game introduce upgrading. Damn was I irritated. Didn't miss out on much, though, so that's good.

ok awesome, thanks for the info guys. just a few more quick questions. im a lil confused about the credit chips.. the credit chip i should sell? or keep to upgrade? do components have an individual effect on weapons? for example when upgrading are there certain components that i should use for certain weapons? i hope that makes sense.

Thanks guy! I had the growth egg prior to entering the final battle and got 64000 CP in about a minute and a half but I thought I could return. So i think i'll load up my other save file and get the max CP I can and then beat the game again. Then I'll have to search for the second best farm victim. Looks like its gonna take atleast 600'000 CP to upgrade some of the final tlevels :(

I only got 4 stars so someone else is sure to have a better strategy. I used Rav/Syn/Sab to start with and switched to med/med/sen when he used that swinging attack or the other devastating one and I used com/sab/sab to inflict as much status effects that he would take. I was barely alive after all the times he used that technique so I don't know if it can KO you or if it takes off a certain percentage of your health. I had to break his chain gauge twice. The first time got most of it done and the second time he was through. squad was light/the boy/fang

Credit Chips and Incentive Chips are fine to sell. Basically anything that has a description that says "Can be sold for a premium." is okay to sell and won't hurt you. Different components just give different amounts of xp - some better than others. No component "helps" a weapon more than others.

-------------------

And about the 2nd form of the last boss, I'm like 99% positive that one move he does takes off 80~% of your HP (total HP, not HP you have remaining), so if you are missing a chunk of your HP before he does it, you'll likely die. You can also switch to SEN/SEN/SEN to reduce the dmg by about half (or more). The move is called 2 diff things if I remember. Something Light and Something Dark. After you see that, you have a few seconds to switch to SEN/SEN/SEN, but sometimes I am too busy doing different things, so I didn't notice.

EDIT: More info from FF wiki; I edited out the name of the final boss cuz of spoilers:

In the first half of the battle, _____ switches between Consummate Light and Consummate Darkness. During Consummate Light ______ only has access to a slap attack which hits all nearby party members for moderate damage, and also regularly heals itself for around 2,500 HP per turn. Its Consummate Darkness mode is more dangerous, as its laser attack inflicts a fair amount of damage to a single party member, while also inflicting a large array of debilitating status ailments. Whenever ______ switches form, it uses the powerful Merciless Judgment attack, dealing fractional damage to all party members and leaving them with dangerously low HP levels. Players cannot perform actions or paradigm shift while this attack is in action.

[QUOTE="TheEldestGod"][QUOTE="frielock"]Is there a way to farm the wladislaus after the game is completed? I have another save so its not a big deal but i was just wondering. thanks in advancefrielock
Sadly there is not. I would have loved to have that growth egg while farming them. That would have saved me a load of time.

I haven't done much since I beat the last boss, but I stayed there and farmed the Wladislaus until I uprgraded every little bit of Crysterium I could and had the maximum of 999,999 CP left over. This is where the game really bites you in the but: I had to earn the maximum of 999,999 several times over to be able to max out what was already open since the secondaries alone take almost that same amount to max (that's just past level 2). Then after I beat the game I immediately wanted to spend my leftover CP to max out all my main roles, but 999,999 was only enough to allow me to max out one role for each character and get a good chunk lit up on another. Basically, I've spent well over 6,000,000 CP since I came into contact with the Wladislaus and have even more than that left to go to max out my characters....... I'm just glad I stayed there and got the head start that I did! :P

*SPOILERS*

umm so ya, i thought i beat the game when i beat Orphan and then the lil in game movie scene came and now it looks like a third form.

@ theEldestGod is this where you used SAB/SAB/SYN --> RAV/COM/RAV --> COM/COM/ RAV ? and is this the fight you have to five star? because i five starred the Barthandelus fight, i two starred the orphan fight and if i five star this will i get the trophy and lightnings theme?

Yeah, man, that's the one. The very last fight is the one where I used that exact strategy and that's the only one yo have to 5star for the trophy. Good luck! If you don't beat it in the first stagger then retry.

The 3rd form is the one you have to 5-star. What I recommend doing is SAB/SAB/SYN (get deprotect/deshell/imperil on if possible, I forget if he's immune to any of those), then RAV/RAV/RAV to get him staggered ASAP, then I did COM/COM/COM (or COM/COM/RAV) with Lightning/Fang/Hope. And that got me 5 stars. Don't spend too much time buffing (get at least haste) because you only have about a minute to get 5 stars; maybe a little less depending on your gear.

Yeah, the only reason I went com/rav/rav and then com/com/rav is because Fang wasn't a good ravager at all and Vanille wasn't a good commando. The strategy I used was just what I used the first and only time I ever fought him and it works great. However, your suggestion, Naaros, is probably much better. I should also state that the weapon Fang had during the fight has "stagger lock" on it, too. So, its pretty obvious that this fight is incredibly easy.

Dang, that sucks, man. Try Naaros's strategy. It should take it down a lil bit quicker. Just make sure your SYN is feeding you some HASTE buffs. Its the most important buff. The only one you'll need really.

Grats! :) It took me 2 or 3 times to get 5 stars on it. Originally, I think I was wasting too much time buffing when it really doesn't require that many buffs (just haste is enough).

Yep, I really enjoyed the ending a lot. :) I've beaten it multiple times just to watch all the cutscenes during the final boss and of course, the gorgeous ending CGI. It's a shame some people didn't enjoy the game; seems like a love it or hate it kinda game, I suppose. It's in my top 3 FF games.

lol, grats to you, too. The Lightning theme you get as a reward for Superstar is pretty cool. I'm using Serah's theme atm (platinum reward). Honestly, I'm kinda sad that Serah wasn't used more in the game (besides being motivation). I really liked her character.

Its in my top 3 right now, but only for the ending. Its a total shame that a lot of people didn't give this game more of a chance and get to see that wonderful ending. Its even more of a shame that the rest of the game doesn't share the exact quality of said ending. I was honestly shocked to see it end so damn beautifully after kinda scratching my head through most of the game.

Nice, gogo! It really wasn't as hard as I was expecting it to be. Don't get me wrong, it IS challenging (especially 5 starring some of the missions), but most of the time is just spent grinding gil. Thankfully, the battle system is amazing (imo), and is probably my favorite system in any game, so grinding turtles (and soldiers, etc etc) wasn't boring at all. Had a blast doing all of it. But I must say, sitting in front of the Upgrade menu doing all items and weapons wasn't that thrilling, but oh well. :P

I'm not looking forward to that. I've 5 starred all but 5 of the hunt missions. I'm trying to find the right balance between leveling and getting those 5 stars. I don't want the target time coming down too quickly. Which means I've also changed my weapons to all level 1 weapons (because I only upgraded a few, some have nice stat bonuses too...and I can't be bothered to do upgrading yet). Of the 5 remaining hunts, I haven't beaten any yet, but I think I can somewhat readily get 5 stars in 3 of them. At least finishing these hunts will net me around 5 trophies. The rest should be leveling, still haven't gotten the sen/syn/sab/med roles maxed out yet (i think i have 1 role maxed per character at the moment), and the dreaded treasure hunter.

A while ago I tried upgrading my Diamond bangle, I didn't even get to transform it before all my components were used up just increasing the levels! And I have to transform it twice!(I missed the treasure in last stage) And that's just 1 accessory! Man I'm not looking forward to that...

Home for the weekend and I've started on my perfect save! :D There's a lot of respawning to complete some of these Enemy Intel entries, but I'm up to the beginning of Chapter 4 now.

*SPOILER*

One thing I noticed this time around is that Vanille is the only character who starts the game with three ATB segments, since she is already a l'Cie. Neat little detail I thought I would share for those who didn't notice. :P

Man, I think I kinda screwed myself by becoming so powerful before doing the missions. Every mission I've done so far I've finished in less than 30 secs and the highest I've gotten is three stars. WTF? What can I do? I couldn't possibly imagine completing those missions any faster. In fact, most of the fights I have on Gran Pulse go by in the blink of an eye and I end up with just a couple stars. What can I do to 5 star these battles with my characters so powerful? Any tips? I never thought I'd be having trouble 5-starring EASY battles.

So you think it's better not to grind TOO MUCH, and not farm CP before the last boss? I'm currently on chapter 12 and I was thinking to farm that monster everyone was talking about. Maybe you're using leveled up weapons? I heard that if you use level 1 gear the target times in these missions will increase and you'll get 5-stars more easily.

Yeah, the more leveled-up your weapons are, the harder it is to get a better rank.
