i picked up the orange box with my ps3 a couple months ago because of all the great things i had heard about half life (mainly) and the other great games inside (which i just looked at as an extra bonus), but after continually trying to play through this game i cannot bring myself to sitting down and beating it and i just really dont see why half life 2 is considered such an amazing fps...i've only played a couple games of team fortress 2 and it seemed like the online community wasn't that big and i could only ever get into one game type on one specific map, and portal seems more like a game you'd play on your computer out of complete boredom instead of one you'd actually purchase to play...

so does anyone else agree with me, or am i the only person who thinks the orange box was just pretty mediocre at best

I think because it was the first to not use cut scenes and use a in game storyline or something those are old games remade.

I thought half-life had a great story and I really hope valve decides to put out the new episode on ps3. I thinkyou should give it another chance.

I actually really like portal. I got more into it towards the end. The load times make the game less enjoyable.

imo half life 2 was great but each to their own. i aint played it on my ps3 but i was thinking of picking it up soon , but with all the great games coming out soon i dont know when i will have time to play it. but to have all those great games on one disk sounds like a winner to me . I think you should give it a good go you could find the story just gets hold of you all of a sudden. thats my 2 cents cheers

The Orange Box or Half-Life 2 is aging pretty well so it's going to feel very outdated. Gameplay is old-school FPS. Everything from puzzle elements to driving vehicles all feel very 1990s. Maybe you dont like old-school. I hated it on the Xbox 360 but I like it on the PC.

I think you would have to play it on the PC to get a good experience.

I can see where you are coming from -- you have to remember that these are old games. For a person playing HL2 for the first time right now, it's not going to seem as cutting edge as it did back in its day. Also HL2 is not a typical FPS to begin with. Personally, I prefer exploration/platforming with my FPSs. If you're the type that prefers the super realistic soldier-type FPSs, then the HL2 style of gameplay just might not be to your taste. That doesn't make it mediocre though-- it just means that you aren't into that type of gameplay.

As for Portal, it is what it is. It was made to be a PC type game. That doesn't make it bad/mediocre. I loved Portal myself and I thought it was an exceptionally good puzzle game. I'm glad I got the chance to play it and am really happy with my OB purchase. Your taste obviously varies.

Half-Life 2 was an amazing game in 2004, and it's still an amazing game in 2008. It's considered the best out there for a reason. Different strokes for different folks.

well it could have been a much stronger game if the port wasnt so botched but i still thought the story was great and the gameplay a great experience. its a definite must-buy imo, and one of EA's brighter moments

I also disagree. 4 years on and Half-Life 2 still kicks the crap out of almost all modern FPS.

Orange Box is a excellent value for money, plus Half-Life 2 and the episodes are great games.

Unfortunately, the EA port was shallow and Orange Box is not a steady experience on PS3, I'm sure Valve would had done excellent job if they wanted to, I'm still puzzled why they haven't.

If you have a decent PC or Xbox 360, Orange Box is superb.

Alternatively, you can still rent it or buy it on PS3 if you want.

because portal was the best FPS-puzzeler ever, TF2 is awsome and has alot of online people. and half life 2 is one of the greatest games of all time.

I fell the same way. I haven't beaten the game either am haven't touched it in months. I beat Portal but arrgh, the rest of the package is hard to touch.

i didnt think it was the best game but it kept me captivated until i beat it. i loved the storyline and the different parts of the game had a lot of variety to the environment. i really liked it.

I'm digging it. I find Portal to be a little overrrated and the load times make it a little hard to get into in the beginning but I'm liking Half Life. Great mixture of puzzles and action. I was unsure when I first started playing Half Life 2 until a couple minutes in, when all of a sudden some people are like start running. Normally I would have a couple seconds to look around but I turn and there are the bad guys running up the steps coming for you, and you escape on the roof, but they're still shooting at you so you gotta duck into another roof et al.

Plus the lite skinned chick is hot
