Just finished the game on Hard difficulty. Spent about 7-8 hours ("guesstimate")....somewhere around there anyway.
The game looks absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful game. I don't mind that cinematic feel (30 fps, cinema bars, grainy picture), actually I feel it adds to the game's atmosphere. The voice acting is top notch. Very well done. But it is only available in Stereo ("where available"), but I could be wrong as my current setup is stereo. Sounds and music are great. Every weapon has it's own sound (something that all game-makers should take note off) and are fun to use. The Dragoon Revolver spins and slams around with every shot, sounding like a beast. The satisfying sound of the Thermite Rifle is great enough to give this game the rating 7.
The game has a great story, but nothing new. Still, it feels very well crafted. Characters are fun and well made- they have their own ideas and quirks. Although the story is good, it has some weird moments and some major plot holes, some that might be addressed in a sequel or , dare I say it?, DLC. The ending is very quick and had me craving for more, closure and an epilogue. A bit disappointing.
There's a lot of cinematics, that's true. And a lot of quick-time events, some that feel "natural" and others that feel slightly out of place. In a game like "The Order: 1886" I have no trouble with this game mechanic.
I'm a bit angry at Mr. Van Ord because giving the game a 5 doesn't justify it. It is a great, albeit short game. It does nothing new, but is a very well made third-person shooter with marvelous graphics, great audio, simple controls, a good universe set in the Victorian Era, and satisfying gunplay. If I were to review the game, I would give it a 7.
