Sony has caved into every single demand consumers have made for the system. Now with the price drop finally coming, there is nothing but negative press around about it. A little too late, No backwards capability(as if that matters for an entry level system?!?!?!), people will be confused!

What the hell is the deal? I for one know its a good thing to get an entry level model out there with 99.9% of the features the normal ps3 has. The HDD is easily upgradeable & it still has a Bluray player. I could see negative press out about "NO BLURAY" but thats impossible.

It is getting irrritating to even read the news now for gamers, it is all 100% bad about sony. I would feel worse if I didn't know sony has sold 5+ million units world wide, in an 11month run w/no advertising or strong game list. Thats still amazing sales considering. Sony is going to dominiate this holiday season. They just need to finally get the word out. If not, no idea what can happen to turn it around in 08. Im just going to spend my $ on beefing up my game rig if that happens. But that, much like hell freezing over is a pretty slim chance.

When we demanded a price drop we meant in the already existing backward comapatible 60gb model. Not some new stupid lower storage model with the EXEMPTION of backwards compatibility. Sony is doing a horrible job marketing right now.

It all comes down to personal choice. Almost every person who needs to play his PS/PS2 games already "has" PS2 console.

The 40GB PS3 version has it all. Blu-Ray, Wi-Fi, Blue-tooth support and decent hard-drive size. For the money it will sell at, the package is superb.

As the Gamespot article confirmed there will be 65 titles by Christmas time. So there are plenty of games to enjoy, not to even mentioned next year upcoming titles.

News, Media and many childlike comments found in many websites or magazines should not cloud your mind.

When I did research and decided to get PS3, I basically sit down and well, did some reading and research.

If I really want to play my PS/PS2 games my old console is ready for it. When i decided to buy PS3 it was for next generation, not old one.

So far PS3 delivered for me, more games are coming as is one year since the console has been out.

System is maturing and there is only bright future ahead, however to understand that you need to look past fanboys and unprofessional magazines or websites.

Bottom line:

My 60 GB hasnt even been filled with 5 GB yet.

I dont use the multimedia card slots in the front.

I havent used more than two USB ports.

I bought my PS3 for PS3 games, not PS2.

The 40 GB would be my pick if it werent for me already buying the 60 GB.

OK, I get what I pay for right? What happens when in 6 months I want to buy a PS3 and theres no 60gb models huh? I'll have every right to complain, backwards compatibility is important to me, and I would like the option to buy the 60gb model but that will not be a reality for me, all I'll get is a 40gb model that will play PS3 games. One of my favourite games which I never got bored of is Street Fighter 3rd strike and sony is taking that away from me!

Most of the people complaining are grade A idiots anyway. I bet if they even dropped the exact same system with an 80gb harddrive and every item available for $199 I bet you people will still complain about it and call sony desperate for such a low price, they are going bottom up, there are no games, blah blah blah. Just like the GameCube didn't have any games when it first came out.

I personally don't look back on the decisions I made whether I paid full price for something and now it is lower. That is for anything in electronics. I bought 2 1ghz CPUs and they cost me $250 each now they are $30 do you see me complaining about that. People just need to shut up and be happy at what is available. If they ain't happy, make your own game console and sell it and make it they way you want it.

No one is taking anything away from you, you can still buy 60 GB and 80 GB models that are B/C.

Plus you also have PS2.

If all you want to do is play 3rd strike then do that.

There is no reason to dislike PS3 options with such insignificant issue. PS3 is a next generation consoles and two models that are sold both support older games. :)

Excuse me, do you know me? Have we played in the sandbox together at some point in our lives? What just because I got a PS2 game means I got a PS2? That's very prejudice of you.

I infact do not have a PS2, I sold it in order to upgrade to a next gen console created by Sony's arch nemesis. I now want to get a PS3, not ONLY for next gen gaming because there are only a couple of PS3 titles available that I want but I also want to play GoW 2 since I missed out on it and play the only PS2 game I couldn't let go. But if Sony takes away BC, I dont know what I'll do. 60gb models won't be around much longer. THERES NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT

60 GB model will not run out for few months and 80 Gb model also supports older games.

My advices were not ment to insult you in any way but since you have turned this into personal issue and are not listening there is nothing more for me to say.

Uhhh... you can stil buy the 80 GB PS3 which supports some BC. Or you could just wait until Christmas for the PS2 $99 price cut and buy one then. Either that or just dont buy a PS3 because sounds like you were just banking on a PS2.

if you sold your ps2 to buy a x360, then i guess you weren't too worried about playing your ps2 games. but, like the others have said... just buy the 80 GB model... 80Gb= BC, 40Gb= non BC. If you still complain after these answers then dear sir... you are not too bright

I wonder how many times we need to say that the 80GB Version still has BC? And its for the same price the 60GB was at launch! They are not getting rid of the 80GB any time soon.

Umm, I thought that was one of the things that made Sony Sony. The fact they had backwards compatibility. This was something that the prided themselves on. I think its a bad move. This is going down the path of the other system. Give people a low price point for a crappyintro system (talking about the core system). If your going to pay 400 for a crappy system, why not spend the extra money forthe betterone(if the person has the money of course).

Keep in mind that one of the main PS2 games you'll still want to play, Guitar Hero 2, won't work on a PS3 even with Backwards Compatibility.  There are controller adapters out there, but from what I've seen, none of them really work with GH2.  If you want to play PS2 games, just keep your PS2.  Problem solved.

Why don't you apply a Sony credit card and buy a 60GB system now for as low as 350 dollars from sony store online? Then just cut the credit card once you paid it and never have to worry about it?

The thing is though, except the backward compatibility issue, the 40GB is NOT a crappy system. It has almost all functionalities of the 60GB system, unlike the "other system's crappy intro" that only has 65% of capability of its premium system.

One thing i can be sure of is ps3 is not going to dominate this holiday season, i would put a bet now saying ps3 will be in last place every month of this year which it has so far, in terms of montly sales.

Ps3 year will be 08, i wouldnt get your hopes up for "dominating" ps3 holiday its not going to happen.

forget backwards compatability, if u want a new system for next gen gaming then get a ps3 to play ps3 games.  Want to play ps2 and p1 titles then turn on ur ps2...i have the 60gb version cuz i cant stand having too many systems connected at once, plus i paid 600 plus tax, and 2 games plus a brand new tv...2g's plus.

people the new 40g model will have backwards compatibility through software emulation just like the 80g. You worry about bad press and news yet you start forum topics like this without reading or researching everything, this puts negative thoughts into others heads then they spread the news on a word of mouth basis that frankly is not factual...dammitt!

I bought a 60gb PS3 back in January and I bought it for resistance and motorstorm and all the games coming out this fall. I also bought it because I have a lot of PS2 games I want to play and I own over 40 PS2 games that I already own. I would like to be able to play them in the future without having to bring out my old PS2. I feel that removing PS2 support is a HUGE longterm marketing blunder. There are almost 120 million PS2 owners right now, and in couple years a big portion of them are gonna want to buy a new console when they are affordable ($199 or below). What would have been a no-brainer decision for these consumers, "PS3! it can play all my old games that I invested in", will now be a decision they will have to think about, seeing that both the 360 and PS3 are on the same page as far as playing their old games.

I just think that the money they saved by removing the Graphics Synthesizer could have been saved by removing Wifi.... and then made an adapter that someone could buy separately (or even better, let the PS3 be able to use wifi adapters that PCs use). I think catering to the huge PS2 install base is a wiser decision than catering to people with Wifi...

no it wont, they removed a chip called the graphics synthesizer that helped with the software emulation. it wasnt complete software emulation with the 80gb, it still had help with the graphics synthesizer. Sony's own spokesman said "it will not be compatible with PS2 games". go to threespeech.com if you dont believe me...

I disagree, I think its a perfect step in the right direction.
