yesterday,my father told me that his friend(expert in computers) that people are bringing from japan or china hacked ps3's so the ps3 could play pirated discs!!!! is this true I can't believe it my self!!!! Is it true?
it might actually be true man. i was reading this a while ago on the net but i just can not remember where. if i remember i will post a link, although one guy was playing burned games and one of them was motorstorm. it still had great quality but if i had the link i will post it for sure!:D
They cracked it a long time ago, but they said it wasn't worth it, since the disks must be Blu-Ray, and the recording devices, and the recordable Blu-ray disks costs a fortune.
It would be nice if there was a hack to allow me to transfer my PS1 games to the HDD and play off there, like I have with the PS1 but other than that, firmware hacks on the PS3 seem like a waste of time. If they are able to get to the level of the PSP's custom firmware, I may change my mind.

Fair enough...I assumed you were a SW kid with your post count. Eventually those disc will be filled though, it would be silly to think otherwise.
I don't know if you have heard but blu ray is constantly getting better and better. I think they came out with a 120 GB disc... i wouldnt be surprised if it gets to 2-300 GB in the future.
I wouldn't say that it would "never work" It is too expensive now, but the prices will eventually drop for the burners and discs. But when the prices do drop there will be people that will take the chance of modding their PS3... one to save on buying new games and two, just because they can.
haha of course it got hacked but it will never work or ever be popular for a lot of reasons.
1. a blu ray burner for your pc costs a lot (like $1000 on alienware)
2. blank blu ray discs are also expensive.
3. do you have any idea how long it would take to download a 25 - 50 gb game???? a long time!
4. the ps3 is still quite expensive and hacking can damage the ps3 and maybe break it, who wants to take the chance?

Hacking a game system to play games illegally does not move the gaming industry forward. If you are a Gamer, then support the companies who invest allot of money to provide the entertainment we love.
I have no reason to belive its not true since its impossible to make a hack proof console and that evey console to date has been hacked and PS, PS2 and Xbox being the easiest of them all
Lol, truth is, everything can be, has been, and will be hacked. There's no point in worrying yourself over nothing because I've seen it done and I got to play the burned games hands on, but it was even more funny when the idiot that did it got busted. It's not hard to get caught because one reason he got caught was because the PS3 keeps track of which discs are being used at what consoles, so they check if the disc is being used as a rental at like blockbuster or whatever or not. Either way, don't pirate software because it just plain sucks. How are we going to support our PS3 and SONY if we just steal all their software by pirating it, also since it was online that he got caught, if you play a pirated game online and the person who bought the game was online at the same time, well you'll get caught no problem. SO KIDS, DON'T PIRATE SOFTWARE, NO MATTER HOW MUCH THAT VOICE IN YOUR HEAD TELLS YOU TO.
