Can someone please tell me, what am I suppose to use the PS3 Hard Drive for and how do I use it?

I have a 320 GB hard drive on my ps3, and I mostly use the extra space for downloading and installing games, simple as that. I have put music and movies on it in the past, although I find it easier to just use an extra for that kind of media.Brycer

You can download demos for free and full games for a cost. Many PS3 games also want to store some data on the hard disk too, so that is another thing that will use up the space. While you can delete the game data, the game will want to reinstall the data next time you play it. So a larger disk may mean that you don't need to spend as much time managing the game data. I personally haven't had much reason to store videos/music on the PS3 hard disk though: it is easy enough to stream it from my computer via a DLNA/UPnP media server.
