The PSP 3000 series still have those scan-lines?

They were a bit of an issue when the system was released. Otherwise I would have bought one.

It seems Sony wants to cool it at the moment with the PSP line, so... recent games like Lunar SS Harmony, or old games like Crisis Core, are there scan lines affecting gameplay? Or even showing just a tiny bit?

I don't have problems with it. If you look to your psp in the right way. But if you tilt the psp a bit forwards, you'll see the scanlines on the bottom edge. But I already own mine psp 3000 for 2 years and never really had problems with it. ;)

It still have those scanlines but frankly it don't bother me. I never own a psp model before so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me.

They are somewhat visible playing some games not all of them. If i am right the problem is with very old games.

That could explain it, I have mostly recent games.

I see... is there a website that has recent games, games from 2008 onwards? I know the PSP isn't as popular as other systems but there must be a dedicated website somewhere...

Just to see videos and images of playing games on the handheld and what it's like.

I know people say its just being picky, but I could really notice them in my 3000 I bought late last year. It was very annoying and distracting. Sold it and am buying a 2000 soon because of Peace Walker :)

I don't have a problem with any of my games, and I don't want to try to look for it either because it is just fine.

I noticed the scan lines big time when I first switched from a 2000 to a 3000. Fast-paced games like Motorstorm drove me crazy with how messed the screen would get. But, after a week I stopped noticing them. Now, I have to concentrate to see them. I guess it is how I got used to the ghosting on 1000s and 2000s.

I just wish I was able to see for myself... I wouldn't feel comfortable dropping $200 just to see if I would or would not be bothered by potential blemishes on the screen... why is there always an issue with the PSP?

In any case, are load times for video games improved since the PSP 1000? Like, noticeably better, more than 2 seconds or so?

If you have a gamestop or bestbuy in your area, you can try it out. Best buy stores for sure. The memory is double from 32mb to 64mb, so the loading times are a bit improve.

They are very noticeable. Personally I'm just trying to adjust. When I first started playing GoW and Pursuit Force, it was really really distracting. The motion of the screen is sub par. In fact, the overall quality of the screen just isn't that good. I reserved the Big Boss Bundle, so I'm a late comer to the psp, and just two days after using the system, I already have a dead pixel.

I don't like digital downloads, and had the Go had a control layout that worked for my hands, I would have went with it for the screen reason alone. Heck, the DS has a higher quality screen--I don't mean to bring another system into this thread, but its true.

Explain how the DS screen is better quality? Also, I thought I read somewhere that the PSPgo screen does not have this problem, and is better overall then the 3000?

Scanlines are a non-issue. Don't make them a factor when determining a purchase. Believe me, I was very worried when deciding to purchase a 3000. It's not a problem. I've played practically every worthwhile game on the system. At the very worst you might notice them if consciously looking for them, and that's it. There's no detriment to enjoyment whatsoever.

Explain how the DS screen is better quality?

jaspap

The screen is more consistent. On the 3000, because of the interlacing, the screen often does not look together--or "solid." I still enjoy the system, but playing games like Street Fighter Alpha Max 3 can be annoying because the sprites are more often then not "falling apart." I really don't understand how people defend the overall quality of the 3000.

You are right about the Go, btw.

My five year old PSP 1001 is getting a bit haggered. Not being interested in homebrew apps, I thought I'd treat myself to one of those new PSP 3000s for MGS: Peacewalker (I quite like the idea of being able to play the PSP on the telly as well).

I picked up a PSP 3000 Piano Black in a bundle with Fifa World Cup 2010. The screen was bright, crisp and far superior to my old 1001. The downside was the gloss finish. OK my 1001 has a gloss finish, but the back is matt. The 3000PB is piano black all over, including the back, where your greasy hands clasp it. After a very short time it was in a horrible state, it looked like my dog had licked it!

I decided to return the piano black PSP and instead picked up the far more practically liveried mystic silver PSP 3000, this time in a Prince of Pesia bundle.

Whilst not the fingerprint magnet of the piano black model, the display was nowhere near as impressive. In fact the silver PSP 3000 suffered from all the issues reported at the 3000's launch. The interlacing, hardly noticable on the piano black model was immediatlely visable. The "wide" colour space, rather than produce a natural image, doused the visuals in a yellow tinge (again as widly reported back in the day). Interestingly, considering the unit is marketed as being brighter, the LCD produced a image that was darker than my old 1001.

The only explaination that I've got for this is the manufacturing date. I notice that the Piano Black model had the latest firmware installed, the mystic silver needing an update. All the coloured PSP 3000s I've looked at have a serial number in the 60,000s, whereas the Piano Black models are in the 160,000s.

A can only assume that within that 100,000 production run Sony sorted out the initial PSP 3000 teething problems and a load of those below par PSPs are still in the NZ marketplace. To be honest, if it wasn't for the fact that I own a PSP 1001 and had a go on a PSP 3000PB for a day, I'd never had know that something was up!!

Man, the opinions in this thread are so conflicting that I don't even know what to believe. I wish I could see it for myself.

But I haven't been able to find any videos on the matter.

Look, I'm still happy with the system, but unlike others, I see the faults of the 3000, as well.

--It is extremely light, causing it not to feel very sturdy. It feels rather hollow.

--Light from the screen is visible through the gaps in the buttons.

--The interlacing issue was the main reason I put off buying one for so long. It is there, but once you forgive that, you somewhat adjust to it. That's why I stated earlier that the even the DS has higher quality screens.

--another thing, the psp is NOTORIOUS, as i've learned, for dead pixels. One of the pixels on my system died the second day of owning it.

--also, the screen rarely looks "black." In static screens, theres sometimes this "smearing" effect going on.

however, there are tons of umd games that can be bought for $15-20, even as low as $10 online. The negative here is that, at places like best buy, it almost feels like the psp games section is being phased out.

lastly, I love the ps1, and those games look great. I like having a umd game in the system, and quite a few games on the mem stick.

if you have a specific question, just ask, as you seem hesitant in the same way i was.

Possibly. I'll find out tomorrow when I swap it for another. It is just a considence that the faults are the same as the initial complaints. Also the Australian and New Zealand market is tiny compared to the US and Europe (I'm in NZ), a batch of PSPs could last retailers a long time over here. That being said, the 3000 is awsome playing on my monitor using component cables and that is worth the price of admission alone!
