Okay guys, from my many years playing Bethesda games (that's all of them since the company started) I have summarized what you can do to help minimize issues in Skyrim. Here we go:

1) Make sure you have a lot of free disk space.

2) Don't have Autosave "on" for everything.

3) Don't make too many saved games because their games seem to go a bit wonky when you have many.

4) During extended play (3-4 hours) turn the machine off for a while then start again. This allows the cache to dump data and gives the fans and harddisk a break.

5) If you're playing on a modded system....well....shame on you and this may be causing problems in itself.

If anyone has anything else to add then please do so. I've been following this since I started, I'm 80 hours into the game and had almost no noticable issues.

Hope it works for you :)

First mate, I am not surprised at all that you are the first person to post :) Second, not everybody has these glitches. Third, the point of this thread is to help people who are having problems, not to complain about the game which their are many threads about (one of which was started by you I believe.)

not me.. haven't posted any threads regarding skyrim.. look bro, i know it seems like i really have it out for this game but u got it all wrong.. i'm just pissed cause it would be so fun to play but the glitch issues completely ruin it, and i seriously doubt that bethesda is really gonna go out of they're way to fix this problem, bottomline- game companies are all about money these days, they could care less if you're gaming experience is entertaining, long as they get paid.. thats why mp has ruined most game genre's :(

How do people find this much time to play games? Skyrim's only been out for a week and you've already clocked 80 hours? That's some extreme gaming right there, lol. I'd be happy if I managed 80 hours in a month, nevermind a week. Is Skyrim that good that you've just shut yourself away from everything and everyone and just played it constantly? Thanks for the tips for getting it to run smoother. I'll be sure to try it out when I get Skyrim.

I love when people cite the good old PURE days of gaming when people would only make games to put a smile on our faces and if they made money in the process that was just a pleasant side effect. Because those days never happened.

I'm 90 hours in, and besides some framerate issues (usually entering an area after fast travel), Skyrim is running fine for me. It's getting patched after Thanksgiving, so people can stop crying about it. Bethesda cares, believe it or not.

If you keep all the auto-save features off and give the game a rest every 3 hours, it runs fine. My file is approaching 8MB, and it hasn't froze since I started maintaining saves and restarting after long gaming sessions.

The fact that some people have to resort to those listed is unacceptable. I'm not getting this game until I know for sure that this has been fixed. I noticed that for Oblivion and Fallout 3 the save files kept getting bigger. I had no issue with Oblivion but Fallout 3 became unplayable by the last hours I put into it. You shouldn't have to clear out other files just to save room for one game, let alone turn off the system just to prevent it from freezing. It's so ridiculous.

If you turn the auto-save off, how would you feel if it freezes after a long time of playing?

We shouldn't have to be doing these things in the first place. This patch better be a damn miracle, or else I might seriously consider selling my copy.

That's right, because Skyrim's main focus is obviously the multi-player. As for the Skyrim situation, it seems to be really hit or miss whether or not you'll experience major bugs/glitches, as I've been playing for 20 hours with a save file over 6 MB (idk why but apparently ppl are having problems when the file gets to that size) and have not experienced anything in terms of lag/slowdown (like I have in various parts of Dark Souls). Granted, I don't doubt it's there, but I'd be surprised if patches aren't released to address these problems since ES remains Bethesda's flagship series.

KamuiFei

LOL, sure.

That first patch never does anything useful. If they release a patch that actually fixes the big problems, it's going to be a few months. That first one usually just gets rid of player exploits.

OP-

Other things that might help your Bethesda game run better:

-Turn Off all Autosaves

-Try not to touch anything in the game world

-Try not to kill anyone in the game world

-Try not to enter any buildings

-Don't fast travel

-Raise/lower the temperature of the room to exactly 72.3 degrees

-Place your ps3 in the Northern most point in the room.

-Play with your game pad above nipple level

-Inscribe the case of your ps3 with the invokation runes from the Lesser Key of Solomon

-Offer a sacrafice to the Norse God Loki

-Call your mother

and most importantly

-if you replaced your ps3 HDD, take the original, wrap it in a clean towel and sleep with it under your pillow during the next new moon.

You should be good after that.

I'm around 50 hours in, and other than some framerate stutters here and there, no problems. Autosave is on and my save file is approaching 10 MB. This is one of the best games I've played, period. It's a bummer that some are having game breaking glitches, but an even bigget bummer that people are going to let this game pass by because of the few people having serious problems. I haven't been this engrossed in a game since Fallout 3.

I know. I loved Fallout 3 too. But for me the biggest "bummer" would be to pay $60 to beta test another game for Bethesda.

I'm usually pretty forgiving of minor glitches and bugs but their games can malfunction so much that it's just not fun anymore or even just not playable...especially ps3 ports.
