Im on the fence about this one. I want to know from people who have had time to play the game if it was worth puchasing. I played MLB 2k7 on 360 and thought it  sucked (heard ps3 version wasnt different so I didnt try it). Past few years I've been still playing MVP 05 for the regular Xbox and just updating the game through a memory card that connects to comp (gives me updated rosters, stats, animation, and some other cool stuff. Im strapped for cash right now and dont want to pick up the show unless its worth it. I've read the reviews saying how it not much improved from PS2 version. While thats annoying, it doesnt affect me purchasing it or not. I just want to know whether or not the actual game is good (not how much different or the same it is from the PS2 version) and if so, worth buying. Any and all insight is welcome. Thanks.

I dont discount that. As I said above 2K7 I thought sucked, dont care for which system. I want to know about the game itself, not what its better than.

I used to be like you.  I thought that MVP was untouchable compared to the competition.  But let me tell you, The Show is the real deal.  The guess pitch hitting system is pretty tight.  You can really read predictable patterns from friends over time and the computer during the game.  I bought MLB The Show 06 last year for PSP, and it was just great, so I was really looking forward to 07.  I played 2k7 on both PS3 and 360... and I can't front 2k7's graphics are amazing.  I haven't seen The Show's visuals on a HDTV but if you want a great all around baseball game then you can't miss with this one.  The one thing that you'll notice is how the game pays attention to detail.  You'll notice these things if you've played baseball or went to a Major League game before.

The graphics are a bit underwhelming on a standard TV.  But the gameplay is tight and online is nice.  Keeps you connected to live MLB scores and games.

This is going to sound really stupid...really really stupid....but forgive me, I have to get it off my chest:

Every video I've seen of MLB:The Show has these characters with really short arms. I mean, it's bugging the hell out of me (as a modeler and artist) that no one caught that during development. Whew. Okay, having said that, I don't own the game but if it plays better than 2K7, I may rent it when I have pals over.

i just bought this game today! i was on the fence too. I think its amazing. Bottom line if you liked the ps2 version you will love the ps3 version. Solid/smooth/crisp graphix and the same realistic gamplay. Im very happy with my purchase.

note: it doesnt have HR derby and i wished the player models would have a bit more detail.

Haha, I didn't notice that yet.  I'll look for it next time I play.  But really the only gripes that you'll have about the game is prolly the visuals.   But if you have a HDTV it prolly looks way better.  I haven't seen it on one but I'm dyin' to see the difference.

They didn't have to give everybody the same pair of cleets either, but these are small things I can get over.  I remember on MVP05 I hated the fact that the catcher didn't throw the ball back to the mound after a pitch.  That really irked me.  On The Show they warm up between innings and throw the ball around the in field on strike outs and plays in the field.  They really tried to capture the feel of a real MLB game.  Players can get ejected too for arguing calls.

Well, from all that I've heard so far, I'll be sure to rent it. I'm not a big baseball game lover - actually, 2K7 was the first I played! Having said that though, I enjoyed m y brief time with 2K7 and if MLB:The Show is as good as I'm hearing, weird body types or not, I'll try it for awhile.
