Here's what Update 2.8 was really for. Appearently it was possable to remote access the PS3 from ANY internet ready device. your phone, PC, basically anything with wi-fi and streaming capabilities.

The patch scrambled the video output for the remote access to any device other then the PSP. I can't be too sure why Sony would do this as it seems like a selling feature to me.

Unfortunatly I can't direct you to any source nor can I instruct as to how to do this (for fear of teh ban hammer), I can only tell you I know this is what 2.8 was for.

That's because it's not supposed to be able to. Hence why Sony scrambled the signal.

I don't know if it was possable to stream game video to a PC or not as I haven't actually tried the stuff. But they did have the dual and sixaxis controllers supported. I may look into it if it becomes supported once again.

I read this on another site also. (Don't remember exactly where) I'd assume that kind of access posed some sort of security risk and Sony patched it up to avoid any problems.

Luckily Sony fixed it. I could only see this problem escalating if it wasn't looked after.

That phone will still be able to do the remote play. All you'll have to do is plug it in and authenticate it. the same way you do with your PSP. What I'm talking about is ANY phone, PC, Iphone, mac, etc.

The update get rid of the feature. I wouldn't doubt if it's back in full swing not too long from now.

lol The hacking community is still FAR from even knowing how to access to proper files on the PS3 to start the hacking process, let alone actually doing anything noteworthy.

And I'm sure Sony knows this. They locked the PS3 down good and tight.

What I was describing was just a reverse engineered remote play. They took what it could do with the PSP and allowed it to work with other devices. And in order to do this there was NO hacking done to the PS3. Because as I said, the thing is locked down tight.

Honestly I really wish it was open source firmware code. Hackers just have GREAT ideas when it comes to this kind of stuff. I don't care about booting illegal games.

Ten you could go with either Sony's official firmware or the hackers custom stuff. This will NEVER happen...But I can dream, right?

It's because that could be a potential access point to piracy. If you can dive in easily from your PC, god knows what can happen.

I would like some things like that. Even some homebrew apps as well. But also, that could mean someone could get the idea to write exploits and viruses. With personal and credit card transaction info sitting on there, it wouldn't sit too well.

I'm pretty sure it is not mandatory to download, so you have to select system update from the options menu or w/e it's called.

Nothing wrong with blocking access from other sources on the PS3 and PSN. It just means an extra level of security of your personal information.
