Star Ocean: The Last Hope is the only one I really hate.
@klonoafanboy122 - The first Hyperdimension Neptunia was a bit of a mess, but I don't think it was super bad. The sequels certainly don't deserve to be judged by the first (which was completely retconned anyway), and they feature vast improvements on the mechanics. There is also a remake of the first game on Vita now, called Rebirth:1 bringing it in line with the mechanics and canon established in mk2 and Victory.
Hyperdimension does seem shallow at first glance, but there's a lot going on beneath the surface, and it has a lot to say. The series delivers a unique satire of the system wars and the gaming industry in general, at least from a Japanese perspective; as well as examining (or more often poking fun at) topics such as fandom, brand loyalty, consumer-rights, competition, piracy, and the hyper-sexualization of female characters in some video games (though the game is unabashedly guilty of this itself). It's self-aware, and constantly breaks the fourth wall. The combat system from mk2 onwards, is also really good.
That said, I feel weird just defending it. I don't consider myself a fan, and it's hard to recommend the series to somebody who isn't open to these kinds of quirky, over-the-top things. There are far better JRPG's around, after all.
