Well, the PS3 does have problems. My first one had the disc drive failure a couple of months ago. And then there's YLOD and firmware updates bricking consoles. There should be a stickied thread for it.Floppy_Jim
Thank you that's what im talking about. See things like this are helpful.
So like most people i ploped down $700-$800 on November 17th 2006 for a 60gig. Since then I have had to take back my PS3 three times. Last night it will make it 4. What makes me even more heated is that I know that my manufacture warranty has expired and I have to go back to the store I bought it from and see what they say (I bought the warranty). But I know that i can't get back a 60gig because Sony just don't make em anymore. Also I have so many saved games, playthroughs, PS2 saves, and pic's that I know I'll never be able to get back. That pisses me off. I mostly use my PS3 for BD movies and sometimes to play games on it. What im coming on this site to say is that I wish there was a broken PS3 thread like the 360 has. I'm ether the most unlucky PS3 owner on the face of this earth or there is this large amount of naive PS3 owners claiming that the PS3 doesn't have a hardware problem. Also don't tell me to call Sony Customer support because i don't speak any other language then English and we know how customer support is.HinduceSony's customer support is really good. I had my blu-ray disc diode blow out on my 80GB unit in March and not only did the represenative speak very clear English, she promised to rush my system to me. I received my system within a business week. Sony might be a Japanese company, but they aren't Time Warner in terms of customer service. To say that there aren't any more 60GB units because they simply do not market them is ignorant. There are warehouses for the same reason. What's the point of offering a manufacturers warranty on a product that you no longer plan to produce? In my opinion, there shouldn't be need for a broken PS3 thread because it doesn't happen often. It'd only be filled up by trolls and uninformative posts; the difference between the PS3 and 360 forums, we're a much more friendly and informative lot. :)
honestly, why does your PlayStation 3 fail so much?? What could you possibly be doing to prevent such disaster to your 600+ machine??
Rule #1 - Always clean her when possible. (doesn't hurt but to grab a shirt or cloth and wipe her down a bit back, side to side, and front.)
Rule #2 - Be easy with her. (Don't force it in too hard, relax and let it go in nice and smooth...)
Rule #3 - Give her some space to work it. (Don't let crowds of junk hang around, protect and make her feel special)
Rule #4 - WAX IT!!! (Play games & watch movies because she likes to stay busy)
and Rule #5 - ALWAYS and mean ALWAYS! be patient with her (If she freezes from gaming out, relax take a deep breath and tell her your fine just had something else frustrated on your mind and hold the FRONT power sensor down for a few seconds to let her shut off properly. NEVER EVER EVER! SWITCH HER OFF IN THE BACK WHILE SHES STILL ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Good luck with your next move bro
It needs to be brought to Sony's attention some how.DenjiThis is why the customer service department exists. It's the most accurate way for Sony to log the types and amounts of problems the system has and legitimize the claims by actually receiving the defective product back.

Well i guess you are just one of those people...NAIVE people. Read this slowly..... MY PS# HAS BROKE 4 TIMES! Yea it doesn't happen often (sarcasm). When I called Customer Support I have never came across a Japanese person it had always been a person from the middle east. I have called those people on more then one occasion. For there not to be a thread you have to be blind. Also how do you know there are warehouses of 60gig? You must of talked to the customer rep that told me there were no more 60gigs. Whatever is the case I still think there should be a thread to make the solutions come back. All the info that i have received off of this site for related problems like this have been helpful. there should also be a customer help line to call in rather then calling Microsoft or Sony.

Yes, but there are people out there that don't call customer service at all and just buy another PS3. But I'm talking about Sony being more aware of the ever growing "YLOD" crap (which my PS3 has fallen victim to aswell) and extending warrenties for defective systems. A CS Rep wouldn't be able to do that, especially not with one person.

As for the YLOD, if you call CS they log the call and all pertinent information such as name and address. Typically repaired or replaced products come with warranties that extend from time of issuance, basically meaning you get a warranty reset since you have a new item than what you originally started with.
Well I've had mine since the U.S launch and haven't had any problems with my system. I know there are some busted PS3's out there "BUT" I'm willing to bet that most have come from people who have not taken care of their consoles.
I guess there hasn't been a thread dealing with this issue is that the failer-rate for the PS3 is pretty low...until lately...Well the best of luck to all who are having problems:)

Maybe the newer systems were abused by fanboys while they were in storage. Haha jk.

What is with you today MAN!? lol
i bought a 60 model around 2 years ago (or around whenever it came out) and it went wrong about a month ago. I phoned sony and they just send you another one, i mean its good that u get a replacement for free even if the warrenty is up but i would prefer it to be fixed because i lost 2 years worth of saved games. So yeh, a broken ps3 thread would be good and id like to see sony listening to what people say.mrsfridgeA sticky thread wouldn't help the fact you never backed up.
Ok , so by now I've checked out five different sight talking about YLoD and PS3 ' Bricking '. Tech support says no matter how much you orginally paid for it, you PS3 will cost $149 or more to ' replace' if not under warranty. My best friend had his PS3 yellow light of death on him while I was visiting last night. Upon calling Tech support we were hung up on and told that it was the HDD, and cost $149 for a refirbished/rebuilt model and up to 3 months to get. we looked up the problem on the official Sony sight and the PS sight. This is becomming a big problem and doesn't always mean the HDD neeeds replacing. Most are saying the power supply takes a ****. We need to get all victims together on one forum to get a better count and see if Sony will do as MS and fix the problem. There is someone on the official Sony sight that has forumed and is collecting info about the ' bricked ' Ps3's. He has been updating every hour to try and keep an accurate count.
The main culprit of YLoD seams to be two year old 60 gig models. According to Sony the Yellow light means hard wear malfunction. I think they may need to re-assess their percent of failure to percent by model( 20gig, 40gig, 60gig, and 80gig ), and will show a greater than 1% failure of the 60 gig models. Sorry about the seaming randomness of this but my mind works faster than I can type.
The reason I posted this is to show the disbelievers that yes this is real, there is a problem, and if we can combine our efforts maybe we can get something done.

But how can you prove that your ps3 actually had teh problem? Is that one site that is tallying them ask for some kinda proof? Or it is just by "honesty" cause lots of fanboys will just try to lie about their ps3 yloding or a 360 rroding.
Just in case anyone was wondering, 1% of 14mil is 140,000. Acceptable industry standard for manufacturing defect is 3%, or 420,000. I bet unique user forum posts over the major sites wouldn't even hit 1,000.emitsu97
Theres actually nearly 20 million PS3's...
I've had my PS3 now for like 10-13 months and Its fine its a 40 gig model though and i have plenty of crap on it many a times has it frozen on me but i dont i know i seem to love and if the intimicy with the ps3 thing is possible im applying to gamestop
Sidenote: does anyone know if gamestop exists in Canada cuz we seem to just have EB games

There should be a stickied thread for it.Floppy_JimYeah my PS3 which I bought pre-owned back in 2007 died of Disc failiure.... But the 40G one i bought works fine and has done for a year... So I dont see why there should be a thread for Broken PS3's.. Know why, Because the Failiure rate is so low... I can understand one on the 360 section.. I mean that thread is probably the most posted on thread on GS... (Lawl)
that is the to datenumbers right? so how about the first year sales where most of these problem are occuring in those machines.MadMonkey73Only Sony could supplies those, assuming CS was contacted and given the details. There's been 2 years time since launch, more than enough for 60GB model issues to rear their ugly heads. Typical electronics warranties are 30-90 days as manufacturing defect is apparent well within that time.
Maybe all that sunny D I have been drinking? sa10kunYuck.Sunny D burns like hell. And there should be a thread.I mean just because the 360 has a higher failure rate does not mean that PS3 users are all safe and sound.Have a thread with the TRUE facts about what can go wrong with a PS3 and how to keep it going.

It should be called "the truth about ylod and sunny d."
The service is pretty good though despite paying the out of warrenty price. I sent mine in monday and a replacement is being shipped out today. I just hope my game that was stuck inside it is coming back too.Denji
Well I still need to call them and see whats up. Hopefully when I get home from work the problem will be done (fingers crossed). But my warranty that I paid for was through Best Buy. The last 3 times that I turned in my bricked PS3 they just gave me a new one. Maybe they will give me a new PS3 and a PS2 to accommodate the features that were on the 60gig model. Or maybe im just dreaming. But ever since my PS3 died i really wan to play it. Maybe I should appreciate what I have now...huuummmmmm

Sony's customer service is the worst, they will outright lie to you. I had my ps3 about 10 months and the unit stopped turning discs. I did the customer service thing, and they took three weeks to get me a refurbished unit back.
The unit I received after 3 weeks would not load discs at all. I was so happy they sent me a broken ps3 to replace my broken ps3. I called the customer service and a very nice lady told me they were very sorry for the broken ps3 they sent me and I would be authorized for a new unit.
What sucked though was she said I had to do the online form again and go through the entire process once again. I asked, why don't you just email me a shipping label, I have the box and packing stuff, as I had received it that day. She said no, you need to get a new box and do the entire process.
I thought that was bunk, but did it anyways. After a couple weeks, and no email saying the new one was shipped, I called sony and wanted to find out what the deal was. That was when I was told, they are still trying to determine if I did anything to void the warranty on the unit. I asked how could I do anything when it was defective upon arrival?
I told the customer service person sony made the mistake, not me, and I should not have to wait for any determination on the unit. I said just put a new one in a box and ship it out right away. That was when I was told, you are not authorized for a new unit.
I told the lady to go listen to my last call, as I know they record and link them to all service orders, so she went and did that. She came back after a couple minutes and said her supervisor has determined I should have never been told I would receive a new replacement, and I would not be authorized for that or any expedited shipping.
All in all it took a total of 2 months for sony to get me a working unit, and they sent me a refurbished one that was all scratched and dinged up.
I called sony again and said I was unhappy with the terrible looking replacement they sent me, and I was told, it was inspected and determined to be an acceptable unit to ship out.
I asked, inspected like the broken one I was sent originally?
Sony does not and will not honor anything they say. Customer service at sony will say anything at that moment to make you happy, but then do nothing to keep the promise they make.
I cannot completley avoid sony, as it would be very difficult, but sony from now on will always be my last option to buy. All my games now are bought on the 360, and if it is a ps3 exclusive, which there are not many, I think very hard before buying.
I will never trust sony again, they are lying cheats who will not stand behind their products, or their customers.

I'm now afraid to call them. Because I know this is going to happen. When my 360 got the RROD I took it back to the place I got it and was told to call the customer service back. I was then handed a new console that was still in its box. Now thats what I call Customer Service!!!! I'm just going to avoid Sony and go to Best Buy and take my loss because I know If I call it will be a bigger loss.
