I'm most likely getting a PS3 in a couple days. Been putting it off for a while, have some questions really.

Are the PS3 slims backwards compatible? If not do they have PS1 games on PSN to purchase?

I'm for sure getting Metal Gear 4, Demon's Souls, and maybe Heavy Rain. What are some other games I should look out for?

Any other things I should know or look out for? Accessories, or what ever.

Any other info would be nice.

Great choice, the PS3 is amazing, and has great exclusives!

The slim is not backwards compatable, they stopped making them that way to reduce costs.

You should play Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and Uncharted 2. They are two of the best games I have ever played.

Well, that sucks about the backwards compatibility, so I'm assuming they don't have anything on PSN.

I was thinking about getting uncharted, but I'm not sure its my cup of tea. I might get it anyway to try it.

They have some PS1 games on PSN, and there are rumours that they are going to release PS2 games in the future. But honestly, once you start getting into the newer games, you wont ever play your PS1 and PS2 games.

Definately give Uncharted a try though, it has a great story and fun gameplay.

Variety of awesome games for the PS3 - getting one soon and def know what i'll buy. Here's 5 that i'd pretty much reccommend:

-Rachet and Clank (Puzzle platformer)

-God of war http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoc4PYVewF4'nuff said

-Uncharted is an interesting TPS platformer but gets boring fast imo, one full playthrough with my friend and i wasn't really appealed back to it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkdZOGCjTrIfor uncharted stuff though

-Littlebigplanet - one of the best platformer experiences this gen

-Killzone 3 - if you like shooter campaigns and a bit of MP , this is where epic experiences are at

Is it necessary to have played the other God of War or Killzone?

go to best buy and pick up the Gran Turismo 5 bundle if youre interested in racing games. 160 GB ps3, GT5, and Grown Ups on Blu-ray for $349. they still had a few left at my local best buy, so they might have some at yours. also get Uncharted 1+2, Infamous

God of war does have a fair bit of story - luckily there is an HD collection on the Ps3 -http://www.amazon.com/God-War-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B002NN7AKU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296499644&sr=8-1otherwise there are many clips on youtube regarding GOW 1 and 2 story and you can always read the wiki. God of war 3 is nothing short of epic.

Killzone 3 not so much, Killzone 2 is bascially invading Helghan, and 3 is leaving the planet

The Slim is 100% not backwards compactible. And yes, you can buy PS1 classics from the PSN store.

As far as games go, here is a list of titles I recommend:

- Uncharted 2 (you can skip the first one, this is way better) - Fantastic TPS with lots of platforming. Multiplayer is fine too, it's well-populated.

- Demon's Souls - A hard, but fun action RPG. It has very unique multiplayer components, but I heard the servers will be shut down later this year.

- Heavy Rain - It's more like an interactive movie, but it's very unique and worth your time. Lots of different endings depending on the choices you make.

- Ratchet and Clank games - If you like platforming or if you enjoyed the PS2 ones.

- Infamous - Fun sandbox game with super powers. Major plot twist in the end.

- God of War 3 - I'm sure you have heard about this one. It's a great and very gory action adventure game.

- Little Big Planet 2 - You can basically create your own "games". Works best with platformers and top down racers, but other stuff is also possible. The community is huge on this one.

- Metal Gear Solid 4 - If you don't mind lots of cut-scenes.

That's all I could think of right now.

The PS3 is backwards compatible with PS1 games, but not PS2. Anyone that tells you differently doesn't know what they're talking about, as I've physically played PS1 games on my slim model.

There are PS1 games on the PSN.

I really enjoyed inFamous, God of War III was a really good rental game (it's not very long). I'd recommend Little Big Planet 2 (or 1 if you want to go cheaper) if you're a creative type. I've put in at least 30 hours into LBP2 in the create mode, but if you're just looking for a platformer to play, you may lose interest.

I wouldn't buy any "official" accessories for the system. A USB keyboard works just fine, and most Bluetooth wireless headset will work with the console (you can Google a list of brands/models that are compatible with the system).

And have fun with your new system. If you're looking for someone to play with, feel free to add my PSN.

As Enid_Green said, you can play all your PS1 games on your PS3 slim (or fat, it doesn't change).

Games to try (imho):

-Uncharted 2 : This game is EPIC. By far one of the best graphics you'll see on consoles, at least until Uncharted 3 comes out. It also has a load of adventure and action as well as thrilling moments, amazing story and superb characters. A must have.

-Killzone 2 and 3 (when it will be released) : This FPS is amazing, the 3rd chapter will be mindblowing, graphics are top notch, physics and ambience are at star level, the second chapter is more based on multiplayer.

-Little big planet 2: The first one was a blast, the second chapter is even better. If you are a creative person, you'll loose yourself in this title. This game is freedom.

-God of War 3: Epic scale. this game has huge ambience and awesomeness in every pixel. Hard to explain. You should play to see how huge the scale of this game is. Really violent, hack and slash style. Top notch graphics.

-Heavy Rain: This game should win an oscar. It's an interactive movie, but everything changes upon your decisions, the plot can suddently twist upside down because of your choices. Feelings and atmosphere plays a huge role in this game, you will feel sad and scared like the characters. Amazing acting and graphics, not much of a replay value, but definitely a must have.

-Infamous: Think about Gta but with super powers and karma decisions. Great comic book style and a lot of fun.

As others have mentioned, you can play all PS1 games on any PS3. They all work fine on my PS3 slim. But unfortunately not PS2 games.

Well, thank you everyone for the feed back. While I'm going to purchase a PS3 Wednesday, I already bought Demon's Souls and Metal Gear 4 today.

All the games suggested sound interesting, I may get a few when I actually buy the PS3.

Really glad about PS1 backwards compatibility, Really want to play FF7 again and Xenogears (I have this game even on my phone.)

Now I just have to hope The same Name as my 360 gamertag isn't taken...

Once again Thanks.
