I am planning on buying a PS3 for this holiday season. I hear the 80gb is $400. I also heard that there's a 160gb coming in Nov. I can't seem to decide which SKU to get so I'll ask all of you. First I'll tell what I do in terms of use:

1) Play Games

2) Download demos, themes and wallpapers.

3) Watch my Blu-Ray DVDs

I'm not the type who fill the HDD with music, photos or movies unless its gameplay footage. I also want to know:

1) Does the PS3 copy some or all of the games onto the HDD when it comes to installation?

2) How much HDD space do you start with on a console with the exception of preloaded apps?

3) Should I get the PS3 now or hold off until November when the 160gb hits?

I already bought Uncharted & MGS4. I already payed off my preorders for LBP, R2 & Dead Space.

Given the info I have provided. What would you PS3 owners recommend?

I appreciate all the help you can give me.

i have the old 40gb and its fine. that one and the 80gb aren't backwards compatible, i'm not sure about the one in the fall. it downloads all of the games onto the hdd, but the amount of space taken depends on the game. expect to 10 gb or more taken up by the games you mentioned. you'll have plenty of room with the 80gb if you don't plan on using it for music, videos, ect. imo, the 80 gb would be fine. if you want to wait longer, thats up to you, but i'm surviving with the 40gb, so 80 should be fine.

You should be able to get by with the 80 gig ..... good taste on those games though. MGS4 and Unchrarted are my top 2 favorite ps3 games so far (Warhawk third) ....... and R2 , Dead Space , and LBP are my 3 most anticipated games coming out this year. I would probably rent Resistance and play through it before you play R2 though.

Normally you get the exact amount of HDD space as the box says except you subtract 6 GB's and thats the real amount of space youll have e.g. 80 - 6 = 74GB, 160 - 6 =154 GB and so on. I would go for which has the more features(if theres a difference anymore) then think about hard drive space since you could buy a 80GB PS3 then pay 90$ for a 2.5 inch Sata with 320GB of space(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148338 ) and still pay less then for a 160GB verson.

EDIT: Not every game requires HDD space but about 3 out of every 5 games require HDD installation.

Some may Disagree with me but I would highly suggest Folklore if you can find a Copy, the art style, story, and combat mechanics are all very interesting and enjoyable, I would also suggest Ratchet and Clank Future Tools, Diseaga 3, Warhawk, and Resistance fall of man.

As far as multiplats go if you don't own them I would suggest, Oblivion, CoD4, Soul Caliber 4, and Overlord.

You may want to consider getting the 40 gig which is being dropped to $299, and spending the extra money on a 320gig Hard-drive they are only around $100 and it's very easily installed there are instructions on how to do so all over the internet, you can also go onto psn and download ps2 backwards compatibility in-case you have any ps2 games that you enjoy playing.

I bought a 60gig when the ps3 was launched and although I was a bit disappointed at first, I can honestly say that at this point my purchase is completely justified.

Just a couple of suggestions, I'm sure allot of people will give you some helpful tips.

Thats wrong you cant download backwards compatibility. It either supports Backwards compatibility out of the box or it doesnt.

Hmm well than I suppose my info may have been wrong, but I do know that I've been on PSN recently and there is a download section in the PS Store, that read "Ps2 backwards compatibilty" I am not discrediting you, but if anyone knows what that is for please share that information.

As far as I remember that PS2 system data on the playstation store allows the PS2 games that used the PS2's hard drive to install data on the PS3's hard drive but I'm not sure.
