Thinking of asking for a PS3 for christmas

But just recently Ive seen a lot of topics about PS3s stopping reading discs, randomly turning off, and its a known fact to non fanboys that sonys customer service is garbage. Regardless there are games on the PS3 that I want. So I was thinking of getting the 80gb. I like motorstorm and the DLC keeps on coming so it seems like a good fit.

I hate the fact that the controller doesnt rumble, it feels cheap and light. But im willing to pawn it off on the second player when I get a rumbling one next year. Also sony has no idea where its going or whats its doing IMO. First claiming that having more than one sku like microsoft was stupid and confused consumers...so far there has been 4 ps3 SKUs...take from that what you will. So really what im looking for here are comments from people who have a ps3 and have had problems with it and had to contact sony. Naturally the only people who give their opinions of the CS on forums are the people who arent happy.

So im lookign to hear a fair analysis from someother people who have had good experiences with PS3s, reports from people whos PS3s have never had a problem, and people that can tell me about what games are coming out next year OTHER THAN METAL GEAR AND FINAL FANTASY. Thanks guys.

ouch, but seriously the only problem is that Downloading over wi-fi is a bit slow. Killzone 2, Little big planet, and PS home are the big games I'm looking forward to. Yeah that was pretty fanboyish. I'm ashamed.

I haven't heard much for hardware problems for the ps3. But yeah if you need support you're not going to get good help. This is pretty universial though, most call centers will always suck just due to the nature of the job. The good this is that you probably won't ever have to call them. Not too sure how it compares to MS anymore. I little while back it was getting pretty backed up and it could take 6 to 8 weeks to get your 360 back. I think MS has caught up now and turn around time seems to be less than two weeks.

I don't really think the CS of sony should affect your decision much. The system is fairly solid, should be more based on what games you want. I'm just waiting on GT5 and various rpgs.

I've never had a hardware or software problem with mine, runs like a proverbial tank.

Devil May Cry 4, Eternal Sonata, inFamous, Killzone 2, The Last Remnant, LittleBigPlanet, Lost Planet, Prototype, and White Knight Story. Those are the ones I'm looking at.

I know I won't be able to get them all though. :(

what is it again? isnt it 0.6 - 1% of people have problems with there ps3s.. unlike 33%.. lol. ps3 is REALLY reliable.. seriously.. i sometimes accidentally left mine on over the weekened and it was still fine.. 360 would have melted if i had done thatArsenal325

I think the failure rate for the 360 is much higher than 33%. The system was made wrong. It's only a matter of time before it craps out

i have all consoles and my ps3 is a blu ray player nothin more or less. can not see it changing at all aswell.

i have 3 consoles but i got rid of my 360. The ps3 has some issues especially over a wifi connection because i find when i play warhawk wirelessly it crashes almost every time. The download speed makes no difference in my opinion. Sometimes the ps3 has minor lag and freezes from time to time which makes me worried that ive broken it. However most of these issues have been fixed since the firmware updates and i find the ps3 overall a great buy.

i did have one problem where my ps3 crashed on the update screen and i was unable to do anything afterwards like the PSN or anything to do with online. I called customer service and the guy was really nice :) he was sympathetic and said 'man that sucks but waita couple of days and check that all your cables are in place etc' and success turns out my power cable was a bit loose and caused my ps3 to freeze.

So i think that you should probably get a ps3 however i dont really watch blue ray movies especially now that you can make your old dvds look better. In my opinion the ps3 is a lot more reliable than the 360 as i have suffered from the red ring twice! the 2nd time my console break i gave up on the xbox. So ps3 in my opinion or a wii ^_^ but that has less variety or things to do. Hope my advice helps.

lol, jk but seriously, ps3 is worth it considering all there is to consider, I never EVER had a sony console in my life, and im glad i got a ps3, no regrets(even with a 40 gb version).

I was able to get my PS3 on launch and the most serious problem I had was it freezing and that happened less than 5 times since its launch date. The downloading time takes a while, not too happy with that but at least gaming online is free. The system is a good buy for its hardware features: Blu-Ray player, card readers, WI-FI, and good enough disk space (plus if ever you want to upgrade your HDD you aren't forced to purchase something made by Sony...like with the 360). You get all those hadware features for 499.99 on the PS3 compared to the 360 Elite (479.99) you'd still be missing Wi-Fi and an HD-DVD player (close to 200 dollars more).

It wouldn't hurt to ask for one for Christmas, the worst that could happen is a "no."

The only problems i had was on CoD4 online where it locks up sometimes its server problems however other then that it works absolutely perfect

And a game thats coming out this year that seems good is Haze

Oh and Bioshock "MIGHT" come out this spring
