Let me first say from the get go I have been interested in a PS3.  Looking on Ebay it appears I can get some under MSRP.

Question is do i really need a 60gb or 20 gb system?  Is there a big difference?

I played resistance and thought it was a good game, interesting concept.  If nothing else, it will be a blu-ray player.

It appears there are some games coming out in the not so distant future and this "Home" thing looks pretty cool.

Hey bro honnestly yes u need the 60gbs.....u be surprised how fast u can fill up the hd and some games u will be able to save on ur ps3 like dmc 4 and ninja gaiden...so that will take up space so u wont have to be worrying about load times.....and about buying from ebay....i wouldnt...because if the system is messed up...well how are u gonna replace it....plus u dont know what a person has done to the system....if you dont have the money i recommend u save up and buy at walmart or something so if it messes up u can just go and exchange it....havent heard about a lot ps3 messing up but u never know...i have a luanch system and no problems yet...hopefully this helps....peace

IT does help me thanks.  I see that some of them have a warranty with them.  One place that has feedback over 36k offers

a 3 year warranty i can purchase.  I will start looking at the 60 gb then.  Thanks for the quick response.

If you dont need the wifi then get the 20 gig if you can find one cheap.  You can replace the harddrive with just about any 2.5 sata laptop harddrive.  No proprietary overpriced drives.  The ps3 has been very reliable but I'd still get one with a receipt just in case.

I think it depends on how badly you need wifi. I thought I absolutely had to have it but to be honest, the wireless signal is so weak in my house that I can't rely on it.

I don't think anyone pays the extra $100 for the card slots.

And while the 60GB HDD is nice, you can always upgrade later for an affordable price. (Unlike a competing console out there...)

If you get the 20GB model, I would definitely recommend a hard drive upgrade. I never even got to half capacity on the hard drive with my console from last gen but today, I somehow checked and saw only 10 GB of space remaining (I have a 60GB model).

Those game demos and Oblivion saves add up I guess. :)

Wifi is the only reason to get the 60GB. If you don't need Wifi, get the 20GB and use the extra $100 you saved on a bigger hard drive (or an external hard drive). As of now, there is no wireless adapter for the PS3, so if you want Wifi on the 20GB, you're out of luck until they decide to release one.

I have the 60GB and I love the wireless access (it's great if you have a PSP). My HD has about 40GB free, so the extra storage is nice, but if you really need the extra space you can always upgrade or get an external HD.

You can get a 500GB external drive for about $150 or a 200GB internal hard drive for around the same price. Like others have already said, the main reason to go for the 60GB is really for the wifi. The card readers are cool too, but you can use a usb reader on the 20GB that serves the same functions as the card readers.

If you'll be using wifi, the 60GB is the best deal though.

I dont have wifi.  I am just wondering about storage space and how much is actually download.  Is there an issue w/ transferring data from the 20gb to the external drive?  If i download games and such can i download them again?

most external hard drives will be picked up and there's if there's an issue with the 20 there will be an issue with the 60 as far as external compatibility.  If you're not planning on using wifi, then I say get a 20 and then buy a larger 2.5 hard drive from newegg.com for under 100.  I think you can find a 120 hard drive for $100 there.

And to the person about who said there's on wireless adapter for the PS3, any wireless adapter will work with the 20 gig.  So chances are they won't release one.

I went for the 60 because I knew I'd be using the space. If you don't think you'll need that much space, then I see no reason why the 20 gb won't work. But they are discontuing the 20gb model, so you might want to get it like soon, before prices go up do to low availability (on ebay that is).

As did I, there is virtually no risk in buying from ebay porviding you buy from a reputable seller and pay via paypal. In the extremly rare event that you don't get your console you file a dispute with paypal and they give you your money back. AS stated above if you dont need wifi then get the 20gb model. Basically the first respone was completly retarded. I bought n desktop 3.5" internal 500gb SATA drive got an external enclosure for it and then plugged it into my internal SATA port of the PS3 to make it so my internal drive is 500gb. It is best to use this method as you cannot do things like save demos, save games bought off the PSN, install linux etc. on an external HDD that you plug in via USB. There is a tutorial on how to do this here altohugh the comentator is quite annoying

Yea i would like to go for the 60gb. I plan on buying it off of ebay, because i wont have to pay that much tax on it, All i pay is like 30.00 shipping and handling. Where as if i go to the store i would have to pay a crap load for the tax

My thing is I do have a 360(I'm a gamer not a fanboy) and that has a 20gb.  I've had it over a yr and have about 5gb left on HD.  Granted 9gb is used up initially. So I have used about 6gb w/ downloads and stuff.  I would like to get the 60gb, but I could use the money saved for another controller, I assume the 20gb troller is wireless and get RFOM.

Yep all sixaxis controllers are wireless.  However you have to remember that all ps3s come with a harddrive.  As such devs sometimes use the HD to cache data for faster load times.  For example Oblivion takes up 4 gigs of hd space.  That is the very extreme.  But other games store megs here and there as well.  You can delete these files as they are seperate from your save files if you dont play the game anymore or not as often.  But just to let you know the ps3 will eat up more disk space then the 360 does.

OMG...AS I HAVE STATED I HAVE A XBOX 360...Why must people bash.  I am a gamer pure and simple.  If we want to talk about games, PC'S will rule forever as they are ever changing and can be upgraded.  Back to something more important.

MSG4 yes...warhawk w/o the single player will suck.  I was thinking whatever game comes out for both systems and is better I can have.  Case in point FEAR from what I have heard sucks on PS3, but is good on 360.  DMC if it ends up being a port will suck on the 360(FROM EXPERIENCE PORTS SUCK!!!!).  Plus I have a blu-ray player.  So please dont bash and go back where you came from.

dont let him get to ya.  He's been all over the ps3 forum recently.

It's true that if games are ported then they will each be better on whatever console they are built for.

The only thing I disagree with is warhawk without single player.  Single player lasts you a week and then its done, but a solid online multiplayer can last you months. And if the single player sucked that bad that they would bag it, I'm glad they did.

I am having fun with my PS3.

Judging by the frequency in which you post on our board, I know you wish you were having fun with one too.

Well 20gb models are discontinued, so you have no choice but to get a 60gb & if the 20gb was still on shelves then you have to ask yourself "Do I need wifi?" or "do I need card readers" some of us do and some us us dont, but to be smart I would recommend getting a 20gb model from ebay if they have it & just upgrade the HDD, but thats just me. Hope You are intrigued :-)
